The Host/Hostess is responsible for greeting, seating, and billing residents/guests entering the main dining room. Preparing the dining room for service and assisting in the service of meals to the residents as needed. Perform clerical duties related to the professional operation of the main dining room.
Responsibilities
- The Host/Hostess is responsible for greeting and seating residents/guests upon entering the Main Dining Room, as well as making them feel welcome.
- Responsible for other host duties such as retrieving the reservation list, preparing a forecast to be given to the cook, reserving tables, assigning wait stations, and preparing the menus for the tables and the menu board
- Answers phone calls in the Dining Room, and forwards messages as appropriate
- The Host/Hostess will perform cleaning duties in accordance with departmental standards and procedures.
- Must be able to perform other positions in the dining room as necessary, such as waiter/waitress duties
- Writes work orders for repairs in the Dining Room
- Assists the Dining Room Manager with overall maintenance of the Dining Room, with writing monthly catering orders, with collecting period end information, and with monthly inventories
- The Host/Hostess will perform any other side duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dining Room Manager or the Director of Dining Services
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be customer-oriented and possess good communication skills in English, both written and verbally
- Must be able to speak and communicate in English so that the essential functions of the position can be satisfactorily performed
- Ability to read, write, and solve basic math problems required by the essential functions of this position
- Must be organized, flexible, and work well under pressure
- Knowledge or aptitude for the safe use of rolling carts, serving trays, tray jack stands, pens, order tickets, POS systems, charge slips, commercial coffee and juice machines, calculators, telephones, copiers, elevators, and walk-in refrigerators and freezers
Education and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must have a minimum of two years of experience as a Hostess/Host in upscale restaurants, private clubs, and/or hotels
- Must have experience or aptitude for working with senior citizens
