Covia is looking for a dynamic 3rd Shift Mill Operator who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Tamms, IL location.
The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:
Operation and Monitoring of Equipment:
- Transporter System
- Monitor BN-105 dust collector and pressure gauges.
- Monitor BN-105 level by climbing ladders as high as 60 feet.
- Monitor transfer line.
- Monitor receiving bin (BN-305) and bin vent (DC-302).
- #3 Ball Mill
- Operation and monitoring of the #3 ball mill and all related equipment.
- Inspection and monitoring of the pinion shaft, bearings, and gears.
- Monitoring journal bearing water coolant system.
- Monitoring mill feed screws, discharge chute and auger, pneumatic blower, and surge bin by climbing as much as three flights of stairs and 30 feet of ladder.
- Recording operator initials, ball mill feed rate, motor amps and downtime on the mill operator's log.
- Classifiers (CL-301 & CL-302)
- Operation and monitoring of the classifiers and all related equipment.
- Monitoring the feed and discharge airlocks, the feed auger, and the classifier rotor drive motor and belts. This requires climbing two flights of stairs.
- Monitoring the classifier fan, cyclone, and finished product airlocks. This requires climbing three flights of stairs.
- Recording product grade, classifier rpm, blower pressures, double dump pressures, screens and particle size analysis test results on mill operator's log.
- Dust Collectors
- Operation and monitoring of the dust collection systems associated with the #3 mill system equipment.
- Monitoring pressure readings, bag pulsing, and take away system on the #3 dust collector. This requires climbing two flights of stairs.
- Monitoring pressure readings and bag pulsing on the bagger bin vents. This requires climbing two flights of stairs.
- Storage Bins
- Operation and monitoring of the storage bin systems.
- Monitoring off-loading bulk trucks including the pneumatic line, tanks, and bin vents. This requires climbing three flights of stairs and a 30 foot ladder.
- Maintaining proper bin level in Mill feed bin (BN-305) by turning transfer system from BN-105 on as needed.
- Acknowledging the receipt of material by signing the bill of lading if a supervisor is not present to do so.
- Air Compressors (When #1 & #2 Mill System is not running)
- Operation and monitoring of the plant air compressor and related equipment.
- Operating and monitoring the air compressor, air dryer, inlet filter, and storage tanks.
Operation of baggers for the finished product from the ball mill system’s classifiers:
- Performing test weights per Covia bag weighing procedure and making adjustments to ensure accurate bag weights.
- Filling, stacking & labeling of bulk bags.
- Record accurate hourly bag counts on mill operator's log.
Sampling, Analysis, and Recording Q.C. Data:
- Taking samples of finished product using Covia plant process control parameters.
- Performing screen and particle size analysis testing on finished product samples to ensure the grade of product is within specification.
- Maintain bag weight accuracy to standards.
Miscellaneous
- Inspection, fueling and operation of forklift.
- Loading grinding media into the mill feed system or directly into the mill.
- Any other task(s) as deemed necessary by the supervisor(s).
The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Prior exposure to and understanding of operational equipment in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Demonstrated experience contributing within a team of professionals to deliver against set targets
- Demonstrated commitment to safety with previous experience in identifying and managing risks
