What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Operations Associate position at Cowen, Inc?
Job Overview:
Tax Operations is seeking a new member to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the global Tax Operations function (Documentation, Cost Basis, Transaction Tax, Withholding and Reporting). You will also be responsible for analyzing new rules, process changes and supporting overall regulatory compliance for the firm.
Some Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Manage the firm’s compliance with global tax and regulatory obligations
- Validate tax forms, client classifications and cost basis processing
- Support US and NON-US tax withholding and reporting (including Chapter 3, Chapter 4, 1446f, CRS, Relief at Source, Tax Reclaims, DAC6, 871m, 305c, Stamp, PTM Levy
- Support US Sales and Local Tax Filings and Payments
- Manage the Escheatment and Abandoned Property process
- Process large amounts of data to transmit to third party vendors and clients
- Support transaction tax processing and reporting
- Respond to internal and external client and third-party inquiries
- Develop, maintain, and improve processes and procedures
- Lead business analysis on global regulatory changes, new rules, and process uplifts
- Perform reconciliations and exception processing to support controls and tax compliance
- Inputting a high volume of data from multiple sources into key databases
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years work experience
- Experience with Tax, Asset Servicing, Business Analysis and/or Project Management
- Ability to identify, escalate, and resolve problems/issues
- Demonstrates strong analytical, critical thinking and organizational skills
- Flexibility and ability to learn quickly
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- A desire to learn and take on increasingly new and challenging tasks
- Proven ability to organize and prioritize workload and drive results
- Ability to communicate professionally through effective verbal and written skills
- Experience with JIRA, SharePoint, Sigma, Snowflake, SQL and Alteryx a plus
