Summary: This position is responsible for participating in the operation of the water treatment plant. Incumbents in this position must hold a “Class I” Water Treatment Operator License.
Supervisory Controls: Reports to Water Operations Manager. No supervisory responsibility.
Major Duties:
· Monitors and adjusts the distribution system to meet system demands; inspects plant grounds, checks gauges, takes readings, monitors flow levels, pumps, motors and valves, and ensures all plant processes are operating properly and within designated limits.
· Takes samples and runs tests for chemical levels throughout the plant as needed to maintain process control across the facility; performs a series of daily laboratory analyses.
· Maintains water production filters through performance of filter surveillance techniques. This includes filter media monitoring for proper depths, media size and condition, mud ball formation, foreign materials, and controls maintenance.
· Responsible for administering AWWA Partnership for Safe Drinking Water Standards at the facility.
· Responsible for maintaining the DAM Inspection log/reports.
· Responsible for maintaining the inter-basin transfer reporting.
· Responsible for maintaining chemical feeders. This includes maintaining calibration records for all feed equipment, necessary spare parts inventories for equipment, confirming feeders are being operated with accordance to facility SOP.
· Maintains records regarding any chemical handling changes confirms they are documented, and proper training is conducted for all facility employees.
· Responsible for keeping all chemical inventory levels at necessary stock levels for meeting treatment needs.
· Monitors process flows throughout the plant to ensure water quality goals are being met.
· Undertakes minor repairs to plant equipment and responds when notified of equipment breakdowns.
· Maintains logbooks and computer files containing process laboratory analysis results, distribution system changes, filter backwash readings, process control changes, chemical inventories, and other pertinent information; documents all problems or complaints.
· Works with the Water Quality Coordinator to confirm records retention is being handled in the manner required under our permits and that all documents are available for easy review.
· Monitors watershed by taking on-site readings of streams and ponds in support of the Water Quality Coordinator and the Watershed protection plan.
· Attends job related training; remains current on revisions to pertinent policies, procedures, rules, regulations, requirements and standards.
· Leads plant tours for the general public.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or a closely related field; six years of water treatment operations, preferably with a strong compliance background; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
· This position requires the person to be mechanically and technically inclined, knowledgeable with computers, must be able to accomplish basic tasks using Microsoft Office programs, Adobe, have the ability to accomplish basic math calculations and read technical drawings and specification.
· Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
· Possession of, with the ability to maintain, a Georgia Class I Water Treatment Operator License.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
· The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
· The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse, and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather.
