Job Description

As a Manager of an engineering group, you will apply your leadership skills of building and managing an agile engineering organization, leveraging automated software development methodologies, best practices and agile methodology to deliver a quality software product on budget, and within planned schedule with high quality. You will be on a program team with business partners and collaborate on feature and story clarification for scrum teams to deliver.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead between 2-3 onshore, near-shore and offshore software engineering scrum teams
  • Manage career progression for team members to include hiring, performance reviews, salary decisions, mentoring, coaching, and all duties normally associated with a hiring manager.
  • Must be able to influence other Technology managers and other partners across the enterprise to develop, design, and build solutions that meet business and technology needs
  • Collaborate with project teams to understand business requirements, project goals and identify appropriate architecture plans
  • Build consensus among technical staff by evaluating potential solutions
  • Address system quality attributes relating to application/platform architecture, such as efficiency or availability, and recommend solutions
  • Define and document application development principles, standards, and best practices. Ensure their adoption and usage
  • Participate in the rationalization and development of multi-year application architecture roadmaps
  • Work with Product and Technology leaders on work intake, prioritization, communication, and delivery.
  • Provide technical thought leadership
  • Drive change, embracing and evangelizing appropriate evolution in Engineering.
  • Help facilitate code reviews as a part of the Development Governance process when necessary.
  • Coach, mentor and identify training opportunities to improve the knowledge or skill sets of the team
  • Proactively serve as a troubleshooting resource and subject matter expert across the team
  • Maintain our AWS budget and optimize our costs


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field plus 7 years of relevant work experience; or a Master's degree plus 5 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD plus 2 years of relevant experience
  • In lieu of a degree, qualified candidates would require 11 years of relevant professional experience
  • Extensive experience in the following:

    • Knowledge in Object-oriented analysis, design and programming
    • Knowledge of and experience with user interface design patterns, visual design elements, web technologies, and development methodologies.
    • Java and JEE related technologies
    • UI based development/presentation/test frameworks (React, Node, Bootstrap, Redux)
    • Experience using automated testing technologies
    • Experience of search engines or other big data technologies is preferred (Apache Solr).
    • Source control management, including advanced branching and merging patterns (GHE)
  • Preferred experience:

    • High-volume and high-performing web applications
    • Experience of working with cloud native application and its lifecycle management in cloud
    • Microservices architecture & various monitoring and operational components
    • Build automation
