What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Leave & Disability position at Cox?

Cox Enterprises is hiring a Manager, Leave and Disability who will be responsible for the design, strategy, implementation, and management of Cox’s life insurance, leave of absence, paid time off, and disability plans. This includes the management of life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, family medical leave, paid parental leave, wellness leave, paid time off, military leaves, and personal leaves. The leave and disability manager will ensure compliance with all government regulations, including state and federal disability laws, and that program objectives are in line with the overall goals of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design, strategy, and management of Cox’s life, leave, and disability plans.
  • Partner with our third-party administrator, consultant, and internal teams (HR, safety, legal, payroll, division leave teams, etc.) to provide guidance and ensure cross-divisional alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with standard work, federal/state regulations, and company policy.
  • Maintain plan documents, complete legal filings, respond to inquiries, and changing legislation.
  • Monitor key metrics by evaluating the plans, benchmarking, and performing cost analysis.
  • Drive continuous improvement to enhance the operational efficiency of the program.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts, review language, terms, and performance guarantees; involve internal and/or external legal counsel as appropriate.
  • Key stakeholder of benefits projects and benefits related system updates (ex. Open enrollment, PeopleSoft updates, plan implementations, etc.)
  • Maintain system records to ensure accurate and timely information/documentation.
  • Create plan communications, including delivering presentations and training to employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Responsible for managing direct reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resource management, or related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a related field like HR, benefits, leave administration, or similar field.
  • Thorough understanding of state and federal regulations relating to benefit plans and all applicable laws relating to benefits administration (including HIPAA, ERISA, ADA, etc.).
  • Experience using HR systems to administer benefits, preferably PeopleSoft.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong customer service focus and excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and establish relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven ability to organize and analyze data.
  • Strategic thinker and detail-oriented.
