JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Tactical Buyer will work to source and procure material for a thriving business. The role provides material planning and purchasing functions for an OEM of heavy industrial process machinery. Specifically, responsible for the sourcing of drive components, bearings, sensors, fasteners, seals, lubrication systems, machined and fabricated parts, etc. from outside and intercompany suppliers worldwide. This position supports a thriving aftermarket business and new heavy industrial equipment. This role will balance a forward outlook, managing part orders for equipment months away, and making sure material is in stock for current day production needs. - Negotiate contracts and purchase agreements
- Review MRP generated planned production requirements
- Improve and expand CPMs utilization of MRP and supply chain best practices
- Evaluate purchase-price-variance and on-time delivery of your suppliers and take action to address poor performance
- Create and issue purchase orders
- Hold suppliers to pricing and delivery terms
- Ensure understanding of TCO (total cost of ownership) on all purchases to increase best cost position
- Design/define strategy for inventory planning and control (set safety stock levels, lot quantities, etc.) and optimize the MRP process for optimal inventory and service levels

- Assist suppliers to achieve optimum methods/lowest cost
- Communicate effectively with manufacturing and engineering to ensure product quality
- Determine domestic versus foreign sourcing (landed costs, exchange rates, etc.) strategy
- Assist with the resolution of technical, quality, and receiving issues with suppliers and CPM resources
- Interpret BOMs and deliver drawings and related documentation to suppliers
- Other duties as assigned
- College degree or 5 years purchasing and/or planning experience
- Experience with heavy mechanical parts and components
- Read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings
- Working knowledge of industrial terminology related to machining, metal fabrication, and mechanical assembly
- Ability to cope with customer driven, ever changing schedules
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Self-starter, possessing a sense of urgency and maturity to get the job done
- Communication (both written and verbal) skills
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access) with PowerBI preferred
- ERP (SAP Business One is preferred)
- Lean DNA experience preferred
- Ability to use data to drive decisions
