Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Director, Compliance (Legal) to join our Compliance team in our London office. You will have an opportunity to join CPP Investments’ global Legal and Compliance team and provide innovative and practical advice and direction on a range of challenging ethical and compliance issues facing a global asset manager of CPP Investments’ size and scope, with its critical and unique public purpose.
We’re seeking a candidate to join a dynamic team of high performing legal and compliance professionals who engage directly across the Fund with all levels of leadership and business units to help them navigate, understand and comply with regulatory requirements and internal governance expectations. The compliance program is rooted in in our Guiding Principles of Integrity, Partnership and High Performance and executes its mandate aligned with our risk framework. The Director, Compliance (Legal) will be accountable for:
- With the global Compliance team:
- Contributing to our Fund-wide culture of compliance and creating an environment safe to raise the hard issues.
- Preparing and overseeing the implementation of appropriate compliance policies and procedures.
- Monitoring new developments in global laws or regulations applicable to CPP Investments and helping shape advocacy where appropriate, in coordination with other internal colleagues or peer organizations.
- Working closely with the Head of Compliance in helping the team meet objectives and drive innovation in CPP Investments’ compliance culture and practices.
Role-Specific Accountabilities:
- Advise on enterprise compliance matters, with a focus on our London office.
- Address Code of Conduct-related queries, processes, and certifications in a timely manner.
- Acting as a primary resource on global privacy issues.
- Develop recommendations on organization-wide procedures and controls by assessing business impact, risk and peer best practices on enterprise compliance issues.
- Act as a thought leader to develop and/or implement policies, procedures, systems and training to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry practice and general risk management, including working CPP Investments colleagues on appropriate regulatory advocacy and policy-making.
- Contribute to innovation in the Fund’s approach to compliance to ensure alignment with the overall corporate
- Prepare compliance reporting for use by the Senior Management Team and Board of Directors.
- Support our global crisis-management team.
Qualifications
- LL.B. or Juris Doctor Degree.
- MBA and/or CFA, CPA or other industry designations desirable.
- Commensurate compliance experience at a law firm or the legal or compliance department of a large reporting issuer or financial firm including experience with securities legislation and regulations.
- Experience in financial services and/or a transactional background considered an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to work cooperatively with many different stakeholders.
- Ability to manage outside counsel.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- An accomplished leader who embraces accountability and ownership of role and deliverables.
- Professional conduct reflecting the quality of work, demeanor, ethical values and high standards of CPP Investments.
