OVERVIEW OF THE DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR ROLE:
• Design and implement database systems and structures to ensure maximum reliability, performance, and efficiency. Coordinates changes with affected users to minimize non-productive time to operations, evaluate and mitigate potential impact on other systems and processes as a result of changes and obtain appropriate authorizations to implement changes.
• Create new tables, views, indexes, scheduled jobs, triggers, and logins.
• Writes basic T-SQL administrative scripts to automate both user and administrative processes. Writes software code to convert data as it is moving from one system to another as part of data conversion and migration. Assess and implement new SQL Server technologies where appropriate.
• Responsible for end-to-end enterprise reporting and transactional database systems.
• Create and execute database backup and recovery policies. This includes the documentation of backups, disaster recovery and maintenance functions.
• Performs regular maintenance to ensure the integrity and performance of all databases. This includes activities such as applying patches, uninstalling patches which cause performance issues, and database migrations.
• Confer with end-users about database security issues and administers security . Changes permissions and access rights to databases, assuring compliance with security policies and regulations.
• Collect database requirements; provide solutions and recommendations for new schema, infrastructure, or architecture. Performs capacity management, watching utilization of database servers and recommends when it is time to add additional hardware to meet demand.
• Support fault tolerant (clustered) and standalone SQL Server database environments on both physical and virtual platforms
• Perform and validate schema changes through development, QA, staging, reporting, and production environments.
• Implement and configure third-party monitoring tools to proactively alert staff of problems or outages.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR:
•Knowledge and experience with Microsoft SQL and Oracle database platforms
• At least 3 Years experience demonstrating advanced database functions and concepts
•Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field is desired.
• MCSA SQL certification (Associate Certification) is desired.
• Associate’s degree in Computer Science or directly related field of study. Military certification will be held as equivalent.
