Primary function: The foundry operator is responsible for shell material knock-off, saw and band saw cut off, metal part grinding and assisting caster with the pouring of molten metal.
Duties and responsibilities:
- set up fixtures and operate circular cut-off and band saws
- use belt grinders for metal gate removal
- use pneumatic and handheld hammer and shot-blasting equipment to remove ceramic shell material from castings
- load and unload ceramic shell molds from over
- assist with pouring of molten metal into molds
- responsible for upkeep and cleanliness of department
- ensure that all operations in foundry have been performed correctly and to specifications
- help in other process area if needed
Normal working environment:
- machinery, ovens and furnaces create a normally warm to hot environment
- standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling and driving forklift are daily activities
- personal protective equipment is required for specific duties and are provided to employees
- once trained, will be working under minimal supervision and follows documented policies and procedures for the majority of the job duties and able to make decisions based on procedures. Engages supervisor when situations are beyond what is covered in the training provided.
Minimum requirements:
- experience preferred
- must have valid driver's license and be able to be certified as a forklift operator
- able to read, write and comprehend instructions in English
- demonstrate basic mechanical equipment knowledge and mathematical skills
- able to stand/walk for 8-10 hours per day and capable of lifting 50-65lbs occasionally throughout the day
- comply with all departmental and company policies and procedures, including attendance and punctuality policies
- critical thinking skills necessary - candidate must be able to make quick, safe decisions and apply problem solving skills
- communicate and work well with peers and management
- high school diploma or GED
