Position Overview
- This position involves daily operation and driving of a Fuel and water vehicle. The driver will be responsible for fueling and watering equipment. Perform tasks involving physical labor at construction sites. Requires commercial drivers' license. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May assist other craft workers. This work is conducted under the direction of the Project Superintendent by performing the following duties.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Perform daily pre/post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines and company policies.
- Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions.
- Must keep truck in a clean and orderly condition.
- Engage in good work procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety.
- Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
- Participate in company safety rules, safety meetings and in toolbox talks.
- Listen to supervisory personnel, contractors, or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters, such as work procedures, complaints, or construction problems.
- Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
- Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.
- Examines equipment and discusses with Equipment & Delivery Manager and/or Administrative Shop Coordinator nature and extent of damage or malfunction.
- Moves equipment in preparation for work readiness and job timelines.
Other Requirements
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Be able to interact with vendors, plant employees, and different levels of management.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
- Maintain current driver’s license that meets state requirement i.e., CDL, Class A and/or B, and if any endorsements.
- Have an MVR that meets company standards.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Be able to work independently, safely, have strong organization skills, and have a strong work ethic.
- Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.
- Strict adherence to Dolomite/A.L. Blades policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- A valid State CDL-B or CDL-A license
- Minimum of three (3) years previous related experience in construction field preferred
- OSHA 10 Certification required.
- Experience in the paving industry a plus.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Ability to promote and participate in team environment concepts.
- Ability to understand written and oral direction and to communicate same with others.
- Ability to work under pressure and within deadlines.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
