Tilcon Connecticut has an opening for a groundperson aggregate helper. This position, retrieves, inspects, and prepares product to customer supplied specifications. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists operators with controls that admit materials separately from storage or mixing bin.
- Maintain aggregate plant grounds.
- Set up and maintain used concrete block area includes but not limited to stripping and stacking hardened blocks.
- Assists in maintenance and report of paint equipment.
- Performs routine machine maintenance.
- Basic understanding of electronics and programmable controllers.
- Know the basics of hydraulics, electricity and tools.
- Assist operators to set up machines and any other necessary tasks to adhere to deadlines and completion of product.
- Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed.
- Understands and applies safe use and operation of the equipment and communicates with other employees about safety related matters.
- Responsible for efficient working condition of plant equipment.
- Performs other related duties.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent or one to six months of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of Concrete Fundamentals.
- Familiarity with aggregate gradations.
- Familiarity with concrete plant operations and materials.
- Understand the basics of hydraulics, electricity and tools.
- Ability to perform routine machine maintenance.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively on radio/phone system
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Computer Skills
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Windows
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and construction areas as outlined by OSHA and state agencies. Protective equipment that is required for this position: Hardhat, safety glasses, reinforced toed shoes, hand protection, safety vest/high visibility clothing for any work in the field, and hearing protection.
