Early Childhood Specialist
Overview:
Early Childhood Specialist provides direct care for children, newborn through six years of age, who are voluntarily placed by guardians at Crisis Nursery. They will engage in intentional, developmentally and trauma-informed interventions to prevent child abuse and neglect, provide security, and provide care that helps children and strengthens families. Early Childhood Specialist will complete developmental screenings with children in care and develop plans for addressing any delays or potential delays. They will work alongside families to connect with needed resources for continued early education success. The Early Childhood Specialist reports to the Child Development Coordinator.
Hours:
Monday – Friday 11:00 am- 7:00 pm
2 weekend days per month
Essential duties:
  • Complete developmental screenings with children in care in order to identify any potential or noted developmental delays
  • Work with Lead Children’s Specialists to provide developmentally appropriate activities to children in care to continue developmental growth and progress
  • Provide direct care for children in a healthy and nurturing care environment.
  • Plan and implement social-emotional, educational, and recreational age appropriate activities for children.
  • Develop goal plans with families and children to address any potential or noted delays
  • Assist children to develop safe and appropriate ways of interacting and expressing their feelings.
  • Manage children’s behavior with the purpose of reinforcing positive behaviors and de-escalating challenging behaviors
  • Maintain records and case notes for all children in the Bright Futures Program.
  • Connect families to early intervention services and other needed community resources.
  • Prepare for shift by reading children’s files, admission information, parent identified goals and other relevant information.
  • Represent the organization at speaking engagements, meetings and outreach events
  • Collaborate with other community agencies and organizations to increase program engagement
  • Complete other duties as assigned to meet agency needs.

  • Communicate effectively with all staff, supervisors, coordinators, and volunteers.
  • Work as part of a team to complete duties and meet agency needs.
  • Work with diverse economic, cultural, and racial backgrounds.
Position Qualifications:
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Bachelor’s in early childhood education, child development or in a related field preferred
  • One to Three years’ work experience with children, at least one of which is in institutional or other residential group care programs or equivalent preferred
  • CPR / First Aid certification, or be willing to complete certification

  • Ability to work with staff on shift to ensure proper care of children and that daily duties are completed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to support and lead peers in times of stress or chaos
  • Ability to identify and manage measurable goals and objectives
  • Excellent skills in verbal and written communication, problem solving, and multi-tasking
  • Ability to manage changing and conflicting priorities
Job Type: Full Time / Hourly
Pay Range: $18-$22 per hour depending on experience
