DAYS & HOURS: 260 days per year (will prorate for 22-23 SY); 10 hours per day; Monday through Thursday; 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Will work 5 days a week during summer.

JOB SUMMARY
Provide a clean and safe environment for the school's students. Also assists in the efficient operation of the National School Breakfast & National School Lunch Program at their assigned school site. May help to direct several student workers; and performs additional food preparation, serving, and cleaning duties. Essential duties and responsibilities are specific to rural schools located in Paulina and Brothers. Reports to Maintenance Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Fills a position designated for School Custodian.
- Performs all general cleaning duties, including, but not inclusive of:
- Working from prepared work schedule, sweep, scrub, wash and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets.
- Clean and dust walls, furniture, woodwork and other surfaces.
- Pick up paper and other refuse on grounds, sweep walks and entrances to building.
- Mow & maintain lawns and grounds
- Operate Irrigation system, replace sprinkler heads and operate time clock.
- Wash, scrub and disinfect rest rooms.
- Clean windows, door glass, drinking fountains, sinks, window sills, and blinds.
- Empty and clean waste containers, replace light bulbs.
- Assist in moving and rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture and other fixtures and equipment.
- Sets up & cleans up cafeteria as required.
- Perform minor maintenance and repair of custodial equipment.
- Correct and/or report safety, sanitary and fire hazards when observed.
- Assist in the complete cleaning and routine maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment during breaks and non-student days.
- Assist in securing the buildings at the end of each shift.
- Perform basic computer skills.
- Assist where needed in daily operations of site as follows:
- Set up student meal serving facilities for operation each day.
- Maintain standards of efficiency, sanitation and safety throughout the Food Service Department.
- Cook food in a timely manner to ensure food is as fresh as possible.
- Cook, portion, assemble and serve large volume of entrees transported from Central Kitchen in a timely manner.
- Prepare salads, fruit and vegetables for salad bar.
- Ensure food service areas are stocked at all times: condiment station, utensils, etc.
- Operate POS system, receive cash & meal account deposits, and helps keep required records.
- Order, inventory and store salad bar and cafeteria supplies.
- Participate in cleaning of utensils, dishes, trays, and cafeteria and kitchen equipment.
- Communicates with parents and staff as necessary.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
- Fulfill performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
- Able to relate well to students, staff and public.
- Read, understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions.
- Adhere to the federal requirements of a drug-free work place.
- Be able to perform basic arithmetic.
- Able to perform custodial functions at the rate expected of custodians in the same building.
- Possess knowledge and ability to perform the basic operation of the Food Service program including:
- Basic understanding of the preparation, cooking and serving of student meals in large volume.
- Keep necessary records in an accurate manner.
- Adhere to proper food handling and kitchen sanitation procedures at all times.
- Employ proper methods of cleaning and maintaining food service areas.
- Work effectively with minimum supervision.
- Possess and maintain a Public Applicators License
- Possess or be able to obtain a First Aid and CPR certification.
- Possess or be able to obtain an Oregon Food Handlers card.
- Courses in food service preparation, sanitation and safety desirable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Lift, move, or be able to carry objects weighing 60 lbs.
- Use cleaning materials and equipment.
- Responsibilities may require the employee to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
- Able to work from scaffolding and an 8’ ladder.
- Responsibilities require the ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Food preparation environment subject to heat, cold and loud equipment noise.
