Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer with a background in agricultural equipment, machinery, or trucking to lead and execute the complete design process, from conception to production. This role involves creating and updating designs using AutoCAD 2D, Inventor 3D, and other software programs. The Design Engineer will collaborate with Sales, Production, and Engineering teams, ensuring designs meet all necessary responsibilities. The individual will also contribute to process improvements and play a key role in project leadership across multiple stages. Effective communication with sales, vendors, and internal teams is crucial for success in this role.

This role in fulltime and onsite. Role can be based in either Waterloo or Northeast, IA

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop and update designs using AutoCAD and Inventor, ensuring proper fit and function.
• Apply engineering disciplines to solve design problems, incorporating statics, strength of materials, dynamics, and stress analysis.
• Lead design review meetings and communicate with sales and vendors about design possibilities.
• Create and document drawings required for manufacturing, collaborating with various teams.
• Ensure customer satisfaction through safe, accurate, and on-time project completion.
• Assist with Engineering Change documentation and contribute to process improvements.
• Compile and communicate purchased parts requirements to the Purchasing Department.
• Play a leadership role across multiple projects at various completion stages.
• Contribute ideas for analytical tools such as F.E.A. and Excel.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• Minimum of 5 years of design and manufacturing experience in agricultural equipment or related fields.
• Proficiency in 3-D CAD programs, preferably Autodesk Inventor & Vault.
• Experience with steel fabrication, machining processes, and welding for hand and robotic processes.
• Knowledge of control systems, ISOBUS systems, and product development coordination.
• Familiarity with Microsoft products, including Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Job Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree, Preferably in Mechanical Engineering
• Expertise in developing multiple design solutions for new and existing products, considering manufacturing capabilities, quality, and customer expectations.
• Experience in performing engineering calculations to meet project goals.
• Experience providing internal and external specifications, including raw material and outsourced components.
• Experience coordinating manufacturing processes for prototype and production builds.
• Knowledge of how to prepare accurate Bill of Materials, part, weldment, and assembly drawings.
• Experience managing multiple projects and Engineering Change Notices to meet timelines.
• Experience in creating CD models and knowledge of the use of AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of Lean project methodology.
