Job Description:
Overview:
The purpose of this position is to establish, own and drive Crowe’s Information Management & Data Governance Program within the Data Transformation team while supporting an agile work environment and collaborative culture. This role will establish and operationalize an information management and data governance program across the enterprise. You will need to understand business processes & priorities, map them to related data domains and entities, and be able to identify opportunities for well-managed high-quality data to support & improve business activities. You’ll identify business needs in collaboration with the Data Transformation team, carve out a practical path to a federated governance model, and measure results while ensuring the team is focused on the highest value efforts & using best practices.
Responsibilities:
Leadership
Ownership of and accountability for the successful results of the entire Information Management program
Lead and develop information management and data governance staff including (but not limited to) coaching, hiring, performance management, compensation, training, development, and capacity planning
Ensure alignment with Data Transformation’s strategic goals and Crowe’s strategic business initiatives.
Understand when to delegate; this role owns the entire team’s success and is about multiplying effectiveness vs individual contribution (though this too will be required at times)
Responsibility to create & maintain clear visibility into team efforts & status for Head of Data and business stakeholders
Must be an engaging communicator with the business, making abstract or technical concepts understandable to executive leadership and inspiring confidence.
Advocate for information management & data governance to the business ensuring the value is understood and recognized
Demand Management & Business Engagement
Lead demand management through engagement with Head of Data & firm leaders to understand strategic business needs and requirements.
Consultation and alignment to bring a diverse and siloed business together around a solid set of data management best practices, principles, metrics, and automation
Develop a strong understanding of business needs, the technical architecture and systems landscape, and technology strategy of the business.
Collaborate with team to plan capacity to accommodate program goals, support other Data Transformation initiatives, and leave margin for learning and unexpected shifts
Information Management & Data Governance Strategy Development
Create a globally scalable data governance and data management strategy that spans enterprise data as well as products & service enablers developed by Crowe
Provide leadership and guidance on the crafting and execution of programs to establish and improve data governance and data management
Ensure data governance strategy is aligned to the Firmwide Data Strategy & strategic business goals
Seek opportunities to bring value to the Crowe business and/or its customers through innovative data governance & data management strategies to support strategic business goals
Accountability for creation, management, and socialization of data governance roadmaps and definition of project initiatives
Information Management & Data Governance Program Design, Development & Deployment
Craft and deliver an operating model in collaboration with Head of Data, including but not limited to:
Identify data domains and owners, establishing a Data Governance Board
Establish processes & practices to drive quality of data at scale across the firm
Onboard Data Owners such that they understand their role and collaborate
Set the Board agenda aligned with business strategy and facilitate discussion
Build relationships with data owners and other data related people within BUs/IVs
Establish and support data stewardship to support data owners, driving adoption of shared standards
Measure, monitor, report and enforce adherence on data governance standard practices and procedures
Define processes needed for data access which apply consistently across the firm, with data owners or stewards as part of the workflow
Establish workflows in ServiceNow for approvals, access, and other pertinent processes to data governance
Processes should ensure that audit logs are maintained and can be accessed to answer what, why, when and who related to data
Lead data quality improvement:
Identify needs and solution to track, measure and improve data quality of the most critical data in the firm
Proactively provide data quality checks on key data elements identified by data owners, surfacing via visualizations accessible to the business
Work with data owners to drive data quality improvement
Identify and address metadata management needs:
Work with the Information Management team to populate required catalogs and inventories
Update the Business Glossary with definitions from MDM initiative, metric definitions, etc.
Work with development teams, to ensure that they maintain the standard documentation ?
Compliance oversight:
Lead risk classification rollout and designing of dashboards for providing oversight
Lead operationalizing and ongoing oversight of data retention policy
Track and monitor the data quality for the identified key elements
Master Data Management
Educate the firm and stakeholders on Master Data, Reference Data and Hierarchies
Work with Data Owners to categorize key data elements into these buckets
Lead the effort to finalize the structure, define and document the definitions of key data elements
Based on the business strategy and analytic needs, identify which data elements should go through the data quality rigor
Help identify a solution to handle master data more effectively (it could be a tool or a custom solution)
Stay connected with IT around system implementations/rollouts to analyze any impact on these
Emerge as the SME on usage and handling of these data elements
Ultimate ownership for team delivery quality and milestones
Ensure data flows, processes, data ownership structure and data lineage are documented and kept up to date in a manner easy-to-use by the business
Accountability for team leveraging best practices for development and repeatable additive testing, seeking opportunities to automate
Regular updates to data usage policies/procedures
Attend to SOC2 audits & support Information Security team as needed
Continuous Improvement
Champion a culture and mindset of excellence, collaboration, continuous improvement, design thinking and positivity
Establish metrics to monitor & tangibly demonstrate the value provided to the business via effectiveness, quality metrics, sensitive data monitoring as well as alert to any negative trends in these areas
Work with stakeholders to prioritize continuous improvement
Assess and recommend opportunities to retire redundant legacy system assets
Adoption & Value?Realization
Work with team and business users to ensure successful adoption, usage and benefit realization from data governance, master data, and related programs
Define and track KPIs and success metrics for adoption and value creation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of Enterprise Information Management, Data Governance, Data Quality, Master Data Management technology landscape, processes, and design principles
Familiarity in the use of meta-data management, data catalogs, and data stewardship tools
Proven track record in operating large data governance programs
Experience in managing enterprise data assets in a large, complex organization
Should be familiar with cloud and data management trends and methodologies
Ability to analyze complex situations and to derive workable actions
Ability to constructively challenge requirements and current state to increase overall value to the firm
Strong relationship building skills
Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change
Good written and verbal communication
Strong analytical and time management skills
Strong facilitation skills with the ability to drive issues to closure
Self-motivated and able to handle tasks with minimal supervision or questions
Ability to compare technologies and make recommendations to senior members of the team
Understanding of privacy laws and regulations
Qualifications:
Over 10 years of relevant work experience in establishing, leading, and owning data governance programs and initiatives, to name a few – data governance operating model, master data management (MDM), metadata management, data quality management, data governance policies/procedures design and implementation
Demonstrated experience in developing and operationalizing data related guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards that promote ease of use, transparency, and compliance
Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships that result in adoption of organizational change
Requirements:
A wide variety of degrees will be considered but a typical candidate may have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant domain such as Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Informatics or related technical field. However, work experience will be of equal, if not greater, importance?
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Availability during standard US working hours; EST or CST strongly preferred
Ability to take part in audio and/or video conferencing & virtual whiteboarding with geographically dispersed teams
