Job Description:
Job Summary:
The Payroll Manager will have the overall responsibility for the administration and delivery of the Firm’s payroll processes and services. This role looks for process improvements in the system and workflow that support our pay processes. This role will oversee the payroll department and including direct reports. In addition, the Payroll Manager is responsible for ensuring all pay processes adhere to internal controls and regulatory pay practices.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Human Resources (HR) and Accounting teams.
- Keep abreast of current payroll tax requirements and relevant laws associated with the processing of employee wage data, including payroll taxes, employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and other required reporting (SUI, workers compensation, deferred benefits, etc.).
- Work with third party payroll processor to ensure accurate and timely filed tax returns, including resolution of tax notices.
- Supervise/process the payroll processing through completion accurately and in accordance with processing timeline goals.
- Supervise/process wage garnishments, pay levies, and other involuntary court-ordered payments in a timely manner, including reporting to the necessary State office or jurisdiction and assisting employees with general process questions.
- Supervise/process fiscal year-end reports and reconcile W-2 information for accuracy. Document any discrepancies in payroll processing to maintain a clear record of reconciliation, adjustments, and resolutions.
- Supervise/assist staff and monitor a shared email with general questions related to payroll, leave of absence, wage deductions, fringe benefits, and other pay related issues.
- Conduct regular payroll reporting audits related to pay records and associated general ledger.
- Maintain the Payroll system for new posting rules, pay components, bonus programs and regularly scheduled system updates.
- Supervise/maintain relationships with third party payroll providers for foreign entities.
- Work with Internal Tax and/or Human Resources on any gross up situations and multi-jurisdiction reporting.
Qualifications:
- Must have full cycle payroll experience and related payroll tax computations/returns.
- Experience with multi-state employers required.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of ADP payroll system preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office; Intermediate Excel knowledge preferred including Pivot Tables and Lookup formulas.
- Demonstrated Coaching skills.
- General understanding of bookkeeping and how payroll impacts the general ledger.
- Experience with Partnership payroll preferred.
About the Team:
Finance (FIN): Finance manages the firm's billing systems and reporting, general accounting, partner and director services and tax and compliance needs, while also monitoring Crowe's financial performance and planning.
