This General Library Associate position is located at the North Regional Branch Library and provides customer assistance at multiple service points as assigned. Independent judgment is necessary in assisting customers with information and materials selection. May act as Team Lead at some locations.
- Staffs a public services point
- Performs proactive reference at the service desk
- Assists customers with information and technology resources
- Performs basic troubleshooting of library equipment and trains others in the use of resources and equipment
- Assists customers with self-services checkout and account information at Circulation desk to include cash, check, and credit card transactions
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and two (2) years of relevant public library experience or progressive customer relations experience in the public sector; or graduation from an accredited two-year college or technical school and four (4) years of relevant public library experience or progressive customer relations experience in the public sector; or graduation from high school and six (6) years of relevant public library experience or progressive customer relations experience in the public sector; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. If your driver’s license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire.

- Ability and knowledge to provide basic library information services and other customer assistance
- Ability to instruct customers on use of equipment to include photocopiers, fax, Venda card dispenser, public computer reservation software, and self-checkout as needed and where applicable
- Ability to use computers, competently manipulate keyboard and spell accurately
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public
