This position is located in the CARE Center, Adult Services Section.

Potential for Telework/Remote options may be considered based on training, quality assurance, performance, and/or business needs.
This position is located in the CARE Center Family Violence Program. The services provided include individual domestic violence counseling, specialized educational groups, case management, emergency temporary shelter, court liaison assistance, and 24-hour crisis intervention hot line. The primary purpose of this position is to provide immediate and intensive intervention to prevent death, irreparable harm, or continuation of abuse, neglect or exploitation within the family. This worker is responsible for providing comprehensive domestic violence counseling to clients and family members in complicated situations. Cases assigned to this position involve clients who are or have been living in a volatile environment. This employee will work with clients to develop a case plan with realistic outcomes that outlines steps the client will take to overcome the barriers of domestic violence. This employee will provide counseling on realistic goal setting and identify services which meet the needs of the family. These services may include childcare, transportation, health support, housing, and community resource utilization. The employee is responsible for thorough case documentation.

This position will serve as a facilitator of the women's and children's support groups. The employee will also facilitate evening classes for the RESOLVE Batterer's Treatment Program. The employee must be able to act as a public relations representative when delivering presentations. The employee may be required to work at the shelter in the absence of shelter employees. The employee understands that work schedules may vary due to duties that fall outside of the regular workday hours. The ability to work as a team is essential to this position. The employee must perform other related duties as assigned or required.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Master's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of counseling/therapy experience in areas such as rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, marriage and family therapy, child life program, or related human services field that provides the experience in techniques of counseling and therapeutic assessments, one of which must have been supervised; or, bachelor's degree in a human service field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related human service counseling or therapy experience which provides the above experience, one of which must have been supervised; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Additional training in the dynamics of domestic violence and domestic law is desired.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of assessment and counseling/therapy principles and their practical application to complex individual and family work, group work crisis intervention, and community issues. Considerable knowledge of population being served, available resources, governmental and private organizations, resources in the community, and the laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. Ability to evaluate and screen clients for appropriate treatment, formulate clear goal-oriented treatment plans, and document progress of clients. Skill in establishing rapport with clients. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative supervisors, clients and their families, care providers, and various community organizations. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Has or is able to obtain a valid North Carolina Driver's License. This position will require assisting in emergency and/or disaster situations.

The Cumberland County Department of Social Services has a dress code policy that must be adhered to. This policy includes specific guidelines related to tattoos and body piercing.
