JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Human-Centered Design to lead our design initiatives within the healthcare sector. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing all aspects of the human-centered design (HCD) process, from initial research to final implementation, with minimal support. They will possess a strong executive presence and excel in stakeholder meetings and workshops. This role requires a visionary leader who can drive innovation and deliver exceptional user experiences that improve patient outcomes and streamline healthcare operations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Leadership and Strategy:**
- Develop and articulate a clear vision for human-centered design within the organization.
- Drive the strategic direction of HCD initiatives to align with business goals and objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of designers, researchers, and strategists.
2. **Design Process Management:**
- Oversee the entire HCD process including research, ideation, prototyping, testing, and implementation.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality design solutions that meet user needs and business requirements.
- Implement best practices in HCD methodologies and tools to drive consistent and effective outcomes.
3. **Stakeholder Engagement:**
- Act as the primary liaison between the design team and key stakeholders, including executives, clinicians, patients, and other internal and external partners.
- Facilitate workshops, meetings, and presentations to gather insights, communicate design concepts, and drive alignment.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure their needs and perspectives are integrated into design solutions.
4. **Project and Resource Management:**
- Scope, plan, and manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
- Allocate resources effectively and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Monitor and report on project progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership.
5. **Innovation and Continuous Improvement:**
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the design team.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in HCD.
- Encourage experimentation and learning to drive innovative design solutions.
**Qualifications:**
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, or a related field.
- 10 years of experience in human-centered design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and executing HCD projects in the healthcare industry.
- Strong understanding of healthcare systems, patient journeys, and clinical workflows.
- Exceptional executive presence with excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to influence and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically and creatively.
- Proficiency in design thinking methodologies and tools.
