Job Summary:
We are seeking diligent and safety-conscious individuals to join our Litter Pick-up Crew for the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) at Leonardtown Maintenance Shop. This role involves maintaining cleanliness and safety of various roadways by performing spot litter pick-up tasks under specific guidelines and schedules.
Responsibilities:
- Collect litter from medians, road sides, and other designated areas using appropriate tools and methods.
- Operate necessary equipment such as trucks and truck-mounted attenuators with adherence to safety protocols.
- Comply with all workplace safety guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
- Participate in daily briefings with the crew foreman and adhere to given instructions accurately.
- Ensure proper conduct and maintain a drug-free work environment as per MDOT SHA policies.
- Document daily work activities including sign-in and sign-out times.
- Handle and report any incidents or damages occurred during the operation.
Requirements:
- Minimum of two years of experience in litter pick-up or related field services.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions precisely.
- Must have the capability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong commitment to safety guidelines and procedures.
- Must pass pre-employment drug and substance tests and participate in ongoing random testing.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various locations as needed.
- Must be physically able to perform labor-intensive tasks in various weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
- Work hours are generally from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays. Additional hours may be required as directed by the Contract Manager.
- Work is primarily outdoors and involves exposure to various weather conditions and traffic.
- Employees must wear appropriate safety attire including ANSI Class 3 safety vests, steel-toed boots, gloves, and other PPE.
