Summary of Position
The Manufacturing Technician - Cyclotron Operator must be highly proficient in electronics troubleshooting and repairs. This position is part of a small shift team that must frequently work independently and with limited supervision.
This position is responsible for performing routine and non-routine cyclotron (particle accelerator) equipment operations and maintenance tasks necessary to produce bulk radiopharmaceuticals according to internal customer needs.
Responsible for the timely response and communication of any abnormal equipment conditions to shift coordinator and / or other department leadership, assisting with troubleshooting and repairs as necessary.
Serve as backup to the Cyclotron Ops-Maintenance Coordinator and his / her associated duties.
Work Schedule : W1 - Tuesday - Friday 6 : 00am - 6 : 00pm (12-hour shifts; rotating schedule). W2 - Saturday - Monday 6 : 00am - 6 : 00pm (12-hour shifts;
rotating schedule). Within a two week rotating schedule, employees will work a week schedule and not be scheduled the following week.
Ability to work overtime is necessary.
Essential Functions
- Performs general troubleshooting for operations of cyclotrons and support equipment.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs of cyclotrons and support equipment with minimal to no instructions.
- Performs special and advanced maintenance and repairs of cyclotrons and support equipment with general instructions.
- Performs scheduled start-ups and shutdowns of cyclotron.
- Performs target loading, installation, and transport activities.
- Operates and monitors cyclotrons and support systems during target irradiation.
- Monitors cyclotrons during standby conditions.
- Must frequently communicate with the Cyclotron Chemistry department personnel to coordinate cyclotron daily production activities.
- Must actively manage personal radiation exposure per prescribed policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Performs record keeping of cyclotron performance and operations data.
- Performs record keeping of maintenance and repair work performed.
- Serves as backup for Cyclotron Ops-Maint Shift Coordinator responsibilities.
- Serves as a backup Backshift Emergency Manager for after hours emergencies on site.
- Performs collateral duties and special projects independently as assigned by shift coordinator, and / or other department leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must maintain operational compliance with US and international regulatory agencies and guidelines (i.e. FDA, EU, HC, TGA, PIC / S, ISO, USP, NRC, cGMP, etc.).
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Associate degree is preferred.
- One or more years of relevant work experience in manufacturing required (regulated environment, attention to detail, and following detailed instructions).
- Experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the following : solid state and vacuum tube based electronics, analog and digital circuits, logic circuits / PLCs, high power RF systems (high HF through low VHF ranges), high voltage DC power equipment, electro-mechanical systems, and vacuum systems (mechanical, cryogenic, and / or diffusion pumps) is preferred.
- Experience working around ionizing radiation sources, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Good mechanical inclination and proficiencies, technical troubleshooting skills with and without schematics.
- Ability to perform large scale troubleshooting with system components spread across multiple areas, and the ability to perform circuit board repair and basic soldering.
- Ability to use a variety of general purpose test equipment and bench test electronic system components.
Working Conditions :
- Willingness to work in plant producing radioactive materials and requiring all employees to participate in safety programs designed to minimize potential and / or actual exposure levels.
- Responsibilities include the ability to lift up to 70 pounds, kneeling, crouching, twisting the upper body, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, must be able to physically negotiate stairs and evacuation ladders with or without accommodation, wear and operate safety equipment, enter vessels, and inspect equipment.
- Material handling devices (e.g., hand truck, fork truck, and conveyors) are used when possible, however, use of proper lifting and movement techniques is necessary to prevent injury.
- Must be willing to wear a variety of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and hearing protection as needed.
- May be required to sit or stand for long periods of 8 hours a day while performing duties.
- Must possess good hand-eye coordination; close attention to detail is required.
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to mechanical / moving parts, hazards including corrosive, flammable and toxic material, dust, dirt, odors, and irritants.
- Willingness to complete safety training within allotted timeframes, and work in a team-based environment.
- Must be able to work outside of regular work hours, including off shift, weekend, and holiday work as business needs require.
