Job Posting for Occupational Therapist at Current Opportunities
The Occupational Therapist will provide diagnostic evaluations and treatment to assigned patients, and help patients reach maximum performance level and to use skills learned to the fullest to function in the community within the limits of their capabilities.
Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and implement appropriate services for each client to meet established goals and objectives, and to ensure compliance with state, agency and service standards, policies and procedures.
Design and assist in implementation or purchase of adaptive occupational materials and provide instruction to appropriate team members in the use and care of materials.
Designs and administers treatment programs to increase clients’ levels of functioning. Uses therapeutic exercises and activities to improve or maintain strength, range of motion, and fine-motor coordination. Instructs clients in adapted techniques and the use of adaptive equipment for meal preparation, home management, dressing, feeding, and other self-care skills. Trains clients in the use of upper-extremity prosthetic devices to resume previous daily routines.
Trains staff on the proper use of adaptive equipment.
Works with physicians to obtain prior authorizations and prescriptions for services.
Provides therapy for neurological integration and uses activities to increase developmental levels of patients.
Designs and provides individualized therapy for adult clients with disabilities.
Provides activities to assess patients' skills, cognitive abilities, coordination (fine and gross-motor), and adaptive-equipment needs.
Maintains timely and accurate patient records and reports.
Required to work in conjunction with Valparaiso University and their Occupational Therapy program.
Ensuring students have the opportunity during hours spent at Opportunity Enterprises, to meet their prescribed requirements.
All other duties as assigned by director.
Physical Requirements
Long periods of sitting and standing
Ability to manipulate for therapy purposes while assisting a client and utilizing therapy equipment
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Qualifications
Possess a valid driver’s license
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Excellent customer/client service
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Ability to use tools used to make adaptive equipment.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy required.
Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association required.
