Dietary Aide - Per Diem - Dietary Under the direction of the Dietary Manager, the Dietary Aide assists in meal service for hospital patients, staff, providers and visitors.
Essential Functions:
Uses the CPSI computer system and Cardex to update all diet orders and room changes. With the Dietary Manager and/or Cook, fills out patient menus according to patients' diet orders and preferences/requests.
Sets up patient trays, using correct format. Prepares cold items for trays using proper food safety techniques.
Visits patients daily for meal requests and food preferences. Stocks patient nourishment areas daily.
Assists the Cook in preparing quality meals served using high standards of food production and portion control, including standardized recipes.
Assists Cook during lunch hour. Takes orders at the Cafeteria window. Uses cash register and issues lunch vouchers to staff. Assists Cook in short-order cooking of items off menu board (hamburgers, sandwiches, fries, chicken strips, etc.).
Is cross-trained in cooking duties. Fills in for Cook to prepare meals for employees, patients, and visitors in case of illness, vacation, or heavier-than-anticipated patient load.
Provides written dietary discharge instructions to nursing staff to be given to a patient in the absence of the Consultant Dietitian, Dietary Manager or Cook.
Maintains a safe and sanitary environment by assembling, operating, disassembling, cleaning, and sanitizing equipment and work areas following guidelines in policy and procedures manual. Performs all cleaning duties as per cleaning schedule and instructions in policy manual.
Contributes to good guest relations by helping patients, staff, visitors, and providers to resolve concerns, and by demonstrating a welcoming and helpful attitude. Helps keep communication open and clear. Communicates to co-workers and supervisors as needed in the communication log or other communication channels.

Minimum Education & Experience:
A high school education or equivalent.
Six months' experience in Food Service is preferred.
Must have a current Oregon Food Handler's Certificate.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Must be able to read and have legible handwriting.
Must have a thorough knowledge of food service operations, including increasing and decreasing recipes, cooking and baking, and dietary procedures.
Must have the skills and communication level required to learn a new task when it is explained or demonstrated.
Must be able to follow oral and/or written instructions.
Must be able to handle direct patient contact.
