Reporting to the Associate Director, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for providing facility related maintenance for all building and process equipment at the Vertex Cell and Gene Therapy (VCGT) Providence site with emphasis on compliance to established procedures, regulatory expectations and stakeholder satisfaction.
The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for leading by example and developing the facility inhouse maintenance staff. The successful candidate will work hands on and in a supervisory role directly with the Facility Operation’s Team and stakeholders to develop, implement and maintain a procedural driven Maintenance Program compliant with GEP, GMPs and other current regulatory expectations. This functional area is responsible for the Operation and Maintenance of complex manufacturing and laboratory support equipment as well as utility systems including Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), electrical and power distribution, qualified compressed air and other process gases, and other pharmaceutical utilities. The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for review and approval of documentation related to the site maintenance programs, ensuring accuracy and strict compliance to written procedures. The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for revisions and creation of SOP’s, Work Instructions and Job Aides to facilitate the efficient and affective execution of the Maintenance Program. This role will participate in authoring accurate documentation for the operation and maintenance of various utility systems as well as supporting current project operations and site goal objectives and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. This role is accountable for the maintenance organization’s training compliance and overall state of audit readiness for the Rhode Island VCGT sites. Key Responsibilities: • Manage overall preventive maintenance program including safe work methods, procedures, and development and adherence to site specific work order metrics • Organize and oversee maintenance staff, contractors, and suppliers • Supervise and develop the technical expertise of Vertex’s maintenance staff • Responsible for the operation, monitoring and response of facility related automated systems including Building Management Systems (BMS) and Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) • Investigate opportunities for improvement and implement best practices • Review/ approve documentation to ensure that accurate, concise documentation is submitted and meets all requirements of GMP's and internal SOP's • Assist with the OpEx and CapEx budget process • Other reporting structure, tasks and accountabilities as may be assigned by management during execution of these responsibilities. Position Qualifications: • Present an energetic, positive, “can do” attitude • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Facility Management or equivalent experience • 7-10 years of management experience with evidence of developing successful teams. • Hands-on experience with electrical, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical equipment and tools. • Experience with operating EMS, BMS and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) • Knowledge of GxP, and other applicable regulations including OSHA • Experience with Job Hazard Analysis and Lock out Tag out. • Physical abilities include but not limited to, lifting objects up to 50lbs, able to be on feet all day, climb steps and ladders as required by job. • Experience working in regulated environment • SME level knowledge base on current regulatory expectations related to equipment and utility maintenance and operation. • Understanding of root cause analysis as it related to non-conforming event investigations and evaluations in collaboration with stakeholders.
