What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAD Drafter position at Custom Utilicom?
Responsibilities
- Read/interpret, architectural, civil, structural, drawings to develop a working set of documents Including picking up redlines and corrections to drawing sets
- Draw up existing conditions in AutoCAD
- With minimum supervision perform a variety of design related duties including but not limited to the following:
- Design and prepare independently, permit documentation related to overhead, underground facilities associated with electric distribution systems applying prescribed standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
- Preparation of computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors.
- Perform design services requiring a full understanding of drawings, specifications, and industry and company standards covering the assigned work.
- Achieve weekly billable goal as defined by the project guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Analytical competence to interact with variety of individuals including engineers and experienced distribution system designers.
- Possess a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility constructions standards, and best industry engineering practices.
- Work with Survey Project Managers and Field Survey Crews
- Assist with preparation of boundary surveys
Requirements
- Must possess high levels of computer understanding – especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, and/or Google Chrome.
- Knowledge of drafting or modeling software's is strongly preferred (AutoCAD/ARCGIS, Spida Calc, O-Calc, or Katapult
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Comfortable speaking with multiple levels of management.
- Ability to learn and operate customer based proprietary software and other computer systems.
- Expedite and facilitate project-based work orders in a timely fashion.
- Proven ability to deal with governing authorities and their requirements, negotiate with private landowners, and provide communication, instruction, and guidance as needed to contractors.
- Understanding of telecommunication and/or electrical distributions systems is a plus
- Ability to read and comprehend engineering schematics and plans is a plus
- Possess a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility constructions standards, and best industry engineering practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to endure frequent/lengthy: Driving, standing, walking long distances (5 miles or more in a day), navigating rough terrain on foot, and lifting/balancing objects that may weigh up to ~40 lbs. and require the use of upper extremities and back muscles; work in proximity to moving vehicles in the right of way.
- Must be able to endure sitting for prolonged periods of time, including driving in a vehicle.
- Must have the physical ability to perform activities such as visually identifying, inspecting, and measuring objects as well as transcribing notes in proximity to moving vehicles in the right of way; these activities require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Must have the physical ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, often in a group setting.
- Must have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
- Candidates must be comfortable working full time with a minimum of 40 - 45 hours per week.
