As a member of senior leadership, the Controller leads and directs the accounting and financial function of the company. This role establishes and maintains compliance with the organization’s overall accounting systems, financial procedures and policies while providing strategic leadership. Reporting to the CEO, the role directs analysis and reporting of financial information including budgeting and planning. The role has oversight for month-end close, banking, general accounting, financial statements, payroll compliance, audit, and A/R and A/P management.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities
• Leads the operations of the accounting department including management of the general accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• Formulates and administers financial policies and procedures, including the establishment and maintenance of fiscal controls and safeguarding of Company assets.
• Ensures financial transactions and events are recorded, classified, and summarized in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Directs and prepares monthly financial reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings in comparison to prior, budgeted, and forecasted results.
• Interpret operating results as they affect the organization and make specific recommendations which will result in cost reduction or profit improvements
• Prepare annual and long-term budget.
• Prepare year-end reporting/disclosures package and provision schedules according to financial covenant requirements.
• Coordinate the monthly close and distribution and review of financial statements and reporting packages.
• Assists in establishing, implementing, and monitoring policies and procedures necessary to support and provide accurate and timely reporting and payments to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Manages and administers the Company’s risk management functions to secure and maintain adequate coverages of business insurance coverages including property, liability, and workers’ compensation. Functions includes all claims management, COI requests, policy maintenance, and annual policy audits.
• Manages the Company’s banking relationships, including establishment and review of accounts, securing financing through loans and leases, refinancing, and bank reporting for covenant compliance.
• Adhoc financial analysis and special projects.
• Manages Financial audits by external auditor
• Coordinate the Annual Physical inventory to ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and ensures appropriate inventory levels and valuation.
• Maintains fixed asset records and assigns asset classifications and depreciation lives for book purposes.
• Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• BA/BS in Accounting or Finance, CPA Preferred
• Minimum of 5 years senior-level accounting experience, operations and management experience is preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Strong understanding of manufacturing, financial analysis, and distribution concepts.
• Understand all drivers of P&L and Balance Sheet, macro understanding of information technology and its impact on the business processes (from order entry, to supply chain management and materials requirements planning, to ERP integration).
• Demonstrated leadership skills that promote influence and building of trusted relationships throughout the organization and ability to work collaboratively with other individuals.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines withing a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, Change and Results Orientation, Ability to work independently, excellent organization skills with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, proficiency in Microsoft package including advanced excel, and ERP systems.
