Role and Responsibilities:
The Meat Room Custodian is responsible for keeping the meat room of the commissary/grocery store clean, safe, and sanitary.
- Work with a team primarily composed of individuals with disabilities.
- Clean and sanitize meat processing equipment (slicers, grinders, saws, cutting boards) to prevent cross-contamination.
- Keep meat preparation and storage areas organized to meet health and safety standards.
- Properly dispose of meat trimmings and waste materials, following regulations.
- Monitor refrigeration equipment to ensure meat products are stored at safe temperatures.
- Restock cleaning supplies, sanitizers, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for meat department staff.
- Assist butchers as needed, including moving meat products and preparing packaging materials.
- Clean tools and surfaces used by butchers.
- Clean and maintain meat display cases to ensure attractive presentation.
- Follow food safety guidelines, including proper handwashing and sanitation practices.
- Inspect meat products for quality and freshness, reporting any issues to supervisors.
- Communicate with meat department staff and management about cleaning schedules and supply needs.
- Maintain cleaning and sanitation records as required by food safety regulations.
- Follow store policies related to cleanliness, safety, and hygiene.

Physical Demands:
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, gran and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to stand and walk the entire shift.
