A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MORTGAGE LOAN OFFICER
As our Mortgage Loan Officer, you service the Salt Lake City market with our mortgage lending offerings. You are much more than a number cruncher. Your first responsibility is to create relationships based on trust. As customers share their personal financial histories and goals with you, they place their trust in you. You see them as people, not just credit scores. You also establish professional relationships with realtors, members, and building professionals. Through networking and customer service, you build a reputation as "the go-to loan officer" for families in our community.
You discuss loan alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, and loan documentation in a way that borrowers understand and feel positive about. To those that don't qualify, you come from the point-of-view that it is not "no," but rather, "not yet." You make sure that they know exactly what they need to do in order to achieve their goals. Keeping management informed of area activities and of any significant problems, you also cross-sell other credit union services. You stay abreast of loan products and trends as they relate to our market and customer base in order to maintain a sound loan portfolio.
For processing loans, you gather documents and review them to ensure that files are complete, accurate, and in compliance. You also work to resolve issues determined by the underwriting team and submit files for final approval. You then assemble documents for delivery to the title company, real estate broker, or lending officer for the closing. Under the direction of the Mortgage Sales Manager, you also assist in the training, coaching, and mentoring of existing and new mortgage sales staff. When each loan closes successfully, you have a wonderful feeling of accomplishment!
