As the Payroll Manager you will plan, staff, direct and control the Payroll Department to ensure the accurate and timely processing of the Companies’ various payrolls in accordance with governmental regulations, company policies and individual compensation agreements. The Payroll Department is responsible for processing biweekly payroll and monthly commission payroll for approximately 1,550 employees located in more than 100 offices and remote locations across the U.S. and Canada. The position is responsible for assuring the accurate and timely processing of the various payrolls, the calculation of tax withholdings, taxed and tax-free or tax deferred deductions, assuring payroll compliance with all applicable federal, state and local agencies, maintaining vacation and sick leave accruals, and processing garnishments. This position must have the ability to be productive in a high-stress environment and meet stringent production deadlines. The position is challenged to stay current on payroll processing trends and compliance issues and communicate such to senior management for review and/or implementation.
Required Experience:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Human Resource Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience in a computer-driven payroll environment, including systems and processes related to payroll processing. Prior experience with Workday, ADP, and/or Xtiva is preferred but not required.
- Understanding of federal and state regulations and filing requirements related to salaries, wages, taxes, benefits and other payroll related matters for various states
- FINRA SIE and Series 99 Exams (must be passed within 120 days of hire)
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and professionally
- Effective people management and supervisory skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem solving and analytical aptitude, ability to use good judgment and make independent decisions
- Ability to work effectively and form positive relationships with colleagues in external departments (e.g., HC, Finance, and IT) and with vendors. Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills, desire to continually improve processes
- Self-motivated, resourcefulness and adaptable to change
- Proficient in a variety of software programs, including Microsoft Office 365, Word, and Power Point. Strong proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions

Principal Duties:
- Management and oversight of Payroll team, including directing day-to-day work, staff development, feedback, and performance management.
- Supervise the processing of the biweekly payroll, the monthly commission payroll and any other special pay runs such as bonus, performance, and severance checks to ensure employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner, in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as Company policies and procedures. Ensure errors are corrected in a timely manner.
- Generate payroll entries to be posted into the Company’s general ledger system.
- Prepare a variety of reports, either on a recurring or ad hoc basis, to support the needs senior management, the Finance department, and other key stakeholders.
- Supervise and participate in the preparation of various payroll tax reports to include Federal, State, SUI, and FUTA to ensure the reconciliation of payroll accounting expense versus governmental reports.
- Serve as the department liaison and interact with the Human Capital, IT and Finance departments to ensure employees are compensated according to company policies and procedures and the seamless and continuous processing of all payroll transactions and functions. Give advice and counsel on questions and problems.
- Review and research issues affecting payroll and payroll processing via professional organizations and journals, research guides and federal, state, and local agency websites to remain currents on payroll processing trends and compliance issues. Communicate pertinent information to management for review and/or implementation.
- Serve as a resource to all employees for payroll related questions. This includes but is not limited to tax withholding questions, vacation, and sick leave accruals, 40l (k) deductions, bonus, and incentive compensation, offer letter terms, deferred compensation, garnishments, Workday time entry questions from non-exempt employees.
- Serve as the in-house expert for the HC/Payroll software, specifically the Payroll and Time & Absence modules. Interact with relevant vendors to ensure the system is providing agreed service and reports, version upgrades and enhancements are installed without incident, resolve problems etc.
- Ensure all payroll records are kept in accordance with applicable federal and state laws. Keep records secure and confidential
- Supervise the collection of data for participation in various industry surveys and for internal and external audits to include various Federal, State and regulatory agencies.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
