Senior Accountant
We are searching for a talented, meticulous and organized Senior Accountant to oversee accounting functions, produce financial reports and handle special projects. Our ideal candidate is a stickler for accuracy, a self-starter, takes pride in doing your job well, likes to put processes in place wherever you see a need for one, so that there is transparency and accountability and looks out for the interests of our organization and students. This position will report to the Senior Manager of Finance & Accounting and also support the CFO.
Key Roles
- Work with the CFO & Senior Manager to ensure high quality financial information is available for key stakeholders including School Site Administrators, Leadership, Board of Directors, Authorizers and others as required
- Accounting Management. Financial Reporting & Analysis.
- Review and streamline current processes across the Finance and Accounting department
- Implement best practices, policies and procedures recommended by authorities like FCMAT within the organization’s culture and operating systems
- Promote teamwork, support morale and provide professional development to the team members
Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Annual Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Fundraising department to ensure Grant activity is captured correctly in the financials, both receipts and expenditures
- Ensure financial compliance and tracking of state and federal restricted funds, and required spending plans along with accurately coding expenses in the GL
- Prepare state, federal and other compliance related required filings
- Assist in planning and management of spending for cash flow related to large, multi-year grants
- Guarantee accurate/timely month-end close and manage department calendar and deadlines
- Management of day to day General Ledger Accounting and oversight of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Review bank reconciliations and general ledger transactions for accuracy
- Review fixed assets tracking and depreciation schedules
- Manage expense and revenue accrual processes, recurring payables, pre-paids and allocations
- Review bank entries, journal entries and payroll entries
- Oversee escheatment process
- Preparation of Monthly Financial Reports
- Create Variance Analysis reports for analyzing budget vs actuals
- Assist with completion of required reports to authorizers and other Federal & State agencies
- Collaborate with schools to ensure financial accuracy and engagement. Meet with school sites on a monthly basis to review their financial performance
- Prepare all documentation and be main point of contact for year-end financial audit.
- Support with Financial analysis, research and ad hoc reporting as needed
- Work to ensure school site & business office compliance with financial & accounting policies and procedures
- Ensure schools receive optimal customer service from the Finance & Accounting department
- Special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- 5 - 10 Years of Accounting experience
- School or Not For Profit Accounting Experience
Compensation
Compensation will fall within a range of $85,000 - $105,000, commensurate
with experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, including (but not limited to):
