An award-winning architecture, planning and interiors design firm with 180 professionals is currently seeking a creative, collaborative, and ambitious Architectural Director to help grow our presence in the Pacific Northwest market. As an innovative designer, seller, and doer, you will work collaboratively with leadership developing and executing strategies to grow the region’s design practice through expanding existing client relationships and developing new lines of work in larger scale multi-family, mixed use, and affordable housing projects. This individual must also possess strong design sensibility with the ability to lead a team in integrating design strategies.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for setting and achieving studio performance goals for design quality, client relationships, staff satisfaction, workflow management and revenue and profitability targets.
  • Actively participate in the business planning process to define a marketing and business development strategy, milestones, goals and objectives for the growth of the studio in collaboration with the Company’s Marketing Team.
  • Grow and maintain a professional network; participate in local conferences, events, and relevant real estate professional associations as guided by the business development strategy
  • Pursue effective client engagement by developing a master client contact list, comprehensive client profiles, and presentation materials, maintaining a regular cadence of client meetings
  • Support business development activities and seek to identify new work associated with existing projects and clients. Actively manage the sales pipeline, backlog and update targets based on performance to achieve the firm’s financial goals
  • Develop, monitor, and report on work plans to ensure proper staffing resources and utilization for projects in keeping with the project budgets.
  • Lead project review meetings to guide project managers and team members toward continually improving project delivery, quality, and profitability.
  • Develop and lead collaborative relationships with the client, contractor, agencies, as well as engineering and specialty consultants.
  • Work in collaboration with other leaders companywide to leverage the capabilities of the firm and help build the architecture practice within the Pacific Northwest region, sharing market insights to inform business decisions and promote an interdisciplinary design approach
  • Collaborate with design teams to deliver informed project solutions based on market expertise and deep understanding of client goals.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes/agencies and sound planning and design principles
  • Prepare, review and approve fee proposals, contracts and consultant agreements in consultation with Company contract staff in regard to allocation of risk and liability, insurability, rights of intellectual property, dispute resolution, and other key contractual issues
  • Partner with the People & Culture Team to identify and recruit best-in-class talent, while assessing the technical skill levels of potential employees to grow the local office

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent design sensibility and presentation skills
  • Extensive knowledge of planning, permitting requirements, and building codes for high-profile developments in the state of Washington preferred
  • Strong skills in AutoCAD required; SketchUp modeling and Revit/BIM preferred
  • Demonstrable sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and proven financial and operation knowledge
  • Energetic, forward-thinking, creative, and adept at strategic planning
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills
  • Self-confident; tenacious while maintaining positive working relationships with clients, outside consultants, and technical staff
  • Able to act decisively, take appropriate actions to implement projects and drive them to a successful conclusion, responding nimbly and creatively to changing circumstances
  • Possess high ethical standards and trustworthiness
  • A natural leader and mentor, well versed in the nuances of leading in a collaborative environment, sharing information easily and appropriately, able to provide direction and hold staff accountable for their responsibilities effectively and positively

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, & CERTIFICATION:

  • 15 years of demonstrated design experience in Multifamily & Mixed-Use projects
  • Active architectural license in the state of Washington preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in achieving or exceeding team financial goals and project performance; creating a culture of design excellence; recruiting and retaining a high performance, properly balanced team
  • Graduate of a NAAB accredited 4- or 5-year architecture school
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without any restrictions or visa sponsorship

We offer a competitive compensation package based on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage and pre-tax Flexible Spending plan. We also offer the opportunity to participate in an Employee Stock Ownership Plan and 401k.

The base salary range for this position is $130,000 - $150,000. Placement within this pay range will be determined by factors such as education, qualifications, project complexity and/or experience. The maximum is reserved for candidates who currently meet all job requirements.
