What are the responsibilities and job description for the Line Lead Production 2nd & 3rd Shift position at Dairy Farmers of America, Inc.?

General Purpose:

Leads, supervises, monitors and coordinates the daily activities of all three shifts for Processing. Responsible for continuous improvement initiatives of a given task team. Determines workflow, ensures availability of proper materials, tools and fixtures. Maintains processing schedules and ensures quality standards are adhered to by the Processing Team. Monitors safety and housekeeping. Interacts with other departments in manufacturing to resolve problems that interfere with the group's productivity. Implements operational policies and procedures as required. Maintains thorough knowledge of all processes and equipment. Understands all the quality parameters required by the Technical Resource Manual. Ability to Supervise Production/Packaging as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the effective use of processes, personnel, material and equipment.
  • Maintains a batch production schedule that will facilitate timely delivery of batches while mitigating opportunities for downtime and batch expiration.
  • Ensure the efficient preparation of coffee extract, preparation of the dairy base and batching of complete product, and transfer to the filler bowl while preserving the safety and quality standards of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc.
  • Ensure CIP's (Cleaning in Place) are performed in such a manner to protect finished product quality while ensuring CIP completeness. Establish and maintain a regular cleaning and sanitation schedule in the areas that processing is responsible for.
  • Ensure that all required documentation is recorded and updated in a timely manner.
  • Review all dairy and ingredient orders for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness. Ensure that all ingredients are used in accordance with FIFO standards.
  • Establish and maintain a documented training program for all quality, safety, operational and environmental procedures for the processing staff.
  • Create and maintain a log of all maintenance related issues and of repairs made. Follows up on any process and equipment problems to ensure task is complete in a timely manner.
  • Schedule timely coffee grounds disposal, ensure the BOD tank is pumped out when necessary and prevent overfills of the BOD tank. Verifies that discharges from the plant are within regulatory limits.
  • Conduct regular safety and Quality audits; ensure all chemicals are handled safely by the Processing Team.
  • Distributes plant status reports to the next-shift Team Leader and Operations Manager.
  • Respond to any injures within the Processing Team, with completing an Accident Investigation, and submitted to Safety & Environment within 24 hours, when necessary.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma plus at least two years college or technical school, or equivalent preferred.
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience in food or beverage manufacturing environment.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Requires overall knowledge of process and equipment.
  • Good leadership skills, problem solving ability and able to pay attention to details.
  • Mechanical Aptitude.
  • Make good decisions, plan well, and keeps organized records.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and other management systems.
  • Relatively high level of analytical ability where problems are complex.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees and elicit work output.
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures.
  • Willing to work any shift as needed.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions in the English language.
  • Ability to employ, lead and direct continuous improvement concepts to move site's culture forward.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the Qualify field for manufacturing.
  • Clear communications, arithmetic, technical reading, computer skills (word, excel, charts), organized, relationship building, ability to present professional presentations.
  • Effective human relations skills, including good listening ability and the capability to convince others to establish or change precedents.

Licensing and Certification:

  • Better Processing Certificate
  • Must have documentation showing legal authority to work in the United States. Better Processing certificate

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Lift up to 30 lbs, no impediment of mobility, able to stand for long periods of time.
