This position performs administrative and veterans’ services functions in support of department operations.
- Files veterans’ compensation and pension claims.
- Answers telephone and greets visitors. provides information to veterans and their families regarding benefits, eligibility requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Researches federal, state, and local codes related to veterans’ benefits.
- Communicates with veterans regarding Veterans Affairs decisions.
- Mails position information to veterans or survivor spouses to determine eligibility for VA benefits.
- Attends local meetings.
- Completes required training.
- Performs related duties.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One to two years of experience in administration or the medical field required.
- Possession of or ability to obtain valid Iowa Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO) accreditation within 1 year from hire date, must complete annual continuing education requirements of NACVSO.
- If claiming Veteran's Preference, Honorable Discharge Veteran documentation is required.

- Knowledge of Veterans Affairs policies and procedures.
