Project Cataloger - Contract


Reports to: Director of the Library & Archives 

Department: Mayer Library 

Classification: Non-exempt, Part-time, Contract

Schedule: Flexible; maximum 28 hours per week 

Term: Until complete, before November 2025. 

Compensation: $26.00 per hour

Scope of Position: 

The Project Cataloger is a term contract position responsible for cataloging and processing a donated collection from a private library with a focus on European art. The Project Cataloger will be responsible for copy and original cataloging as well technical processing of the materials.   


Essential Functions: 

  • Provide original and copy cataloging, subject analysis, and call number classification for designated materials in accordance with current library cataloging standards and local practices.  
  • Perform technical services to prepare cataloged materials for circulation. 
  • Maintain statistics and inventory documentation for the collection.  

Requirements

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated experience in original and copy cataloging for library collections. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current standards for bibliographic and authority data: MARC, AACR2, RDA, LCSH, LCC. 
  • Experience applying subject analysis and classification to library materials.  
  • Experience cataloging in an integrated library system preferred. 
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent proof-reading skills.  
  • Ability to work independently with superior time management skills. 
  • Knowledge of art and art history a plus. 
  • Reading knowledge of one or more European languages, preferably French or Italian, a plus.  
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with commonly used Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to reach high or low shelves, push a book truck, and lift 30 pounds.
