DENTIST QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited school of Dentistry and currently registered to practice as a Licensed Dentist in New York State.
Recent experience in managing care of the HIV infected individuals and substance-abusing population is strongly preferred.
Bi-lingual in Spanish/English preferred.
Meets all the credentialing requirements as stated in the Medical/Dental staff By-Laws of DFCC.
DENTIST POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible and accountable for assessing, planning and providing dental care, performing treatment interventions and evaluating patient outcomes in accordance with best practice standards.
The Dentist will support the mission and philosophy of Damian Family Care Centers, Inc.
DENTIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs all dental interventions and procedures in accordance with acceptable standards of practice.
Utilizes appropriate diagnostic tools (i.e., x-rays, endodontic equipment) to aid in the assessment, evaluation, and treatment of the oral cavity in accordance with current standards of dental care.
Demonstrates competency in the management of oral health for HIV infected individuals and the substance abusing population served.
Assesses patients’ condition and age specific dental needs on a continuum basis; sets goals; prescribes appropriate interventions to meet those goals that reflect the special needs of the patient population.
Provides complete and appropriate documentation regarding clinical observations, diagnoses, treatment objectives, and patient’s response to treatment regimens. Utilizes an outcome-oriented approach to assess patient’s response to prescribed regimens.
Identifies patients educational needs, and utilizes appropriate resources to meet these needs.
Maintains and regulates activity within the dental suite to ensure patients and staff remain safe and secure as well as minimizing interruptions that would jeopardize the care and safety of all involved.
Collaborates effectively with other health care providers in planning interventions that will best meet the patient needs in a timely manner and promote the continuum of care.
Appropriately refers to outside specialists, based on higher level of acuity of patients as well as extensive dental techniques to accordance with current protocols.
Utilizes supervisory feedback to assist in improving patient outcomes as well as the ability to integrate recommended techniques into daily practice.
Effectively provides direct and indirect supervision of job functions and treatment interventions provided by Dental Hygienists and Dental Assistants.
Maintains open communication with all members of the health care team to promote a collaborative and collegial relationship.
Documents patient interventions and outcomes on appropriate chart forms in a legible manner and in accordance with current standards of practice and organizational policies.
Verbalizes and demonstrates knowledge and compliance to DFCC policies and procedures; all current regulatory and statutory requirements and HIPAA Privacy Rules.

Provides a safe and secure environment for patients, family, staff and self through the appropriate application of established safety and infection control principles.
Participates and responds to all safety and security drills as planned by management and during emergencies, as necessary.
Maintains compliance to universal precautions, OSHA standards for blood-borne pathogens, and CDC Infection Control guidelines for Dental Services.
Meets all organizational requirements for mandatory education at the time of employment and annually, thereafter.
