GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Phenomenex Materials Manager is responsible for managing and providing leadership for all aspects of upstream material flow, from the supply base through receiving. This individual will manage raw and OEM inventory levels, supplier on-time delivery, and off-site warehousing to ensure that both internal and external customer orders are fulfilled on time. This position is a key member of the Procurement organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead process development of dynamic analysis of both internal and external customer demand, sales forecasts, and historical material usage to support execution of build plans
• Analyze, develop and execute annual action plans towards improving both supplier and customer on-time delivery while simultaneously increasing working capital turns
• Coordinate with cross-functional departments to develop the best economic strategy for material planning and buying to support customer demand and cost objectives
• Establish and implement best practice systems and processes that support purchased inventory
• Support Global Procurement in the execution of our sourcing strategies to meet OpCo business growth, both in sustaining products and new product development
• Develop, maintain and support effective relationships with suppliers of goods and services to meet the established quality, delivery, and cost targets
• Manage and distribute Supplier Scorecards on a regular basis as a tool to drive improved supplier performance
• Build robust and automated reporting tools that deliver simple and effective communication to leadership, as well as point out areas of focus for improvement in daily KPI’s
• Achieves financial objectives by working with management group to prepare the materials budget, schedule expenditures, analyze variances and initiate corrective actions
• Participates as a member of the operations leadership team in making cross-functional operational decisions
• Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by implementing, maintaining and aligning company policies that adhere to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.
• Champion the use of DBS to support the continuous improvement goals and daily operational objectives
• Identification and Implementation of Key projects to "In-Sourcing" that drive strategic & cost savings opportunities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree, Materials/Supply Chain discipline preferred
• 3-5 year’s progressive experience in management of materials within a manufacturing environment, Danaher Business System preferred
• Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their use in an assembly/manufacturing environment (understanding of Microsoft AX preferred)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
• Ability to demonstrate solid written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated success with leading Continuous Improvement initiatives
• Leads by example and motivates people by creating a challenging, empowering, and collaborative working environment
• Highly analytical, with clear, logical understanding of how to problem solve
• Ability to contribute in a cross functional collaborative environment
• Financial skills including cost modeling
• Ability to leverage metrics and other tools to drive supplier performance
