Operations Team Leader (2nd Shift)

Job Description

We have an opportunity for a Team Leader Operational Services – 2nd shift (2:00pm-10:00pm) to join us at our Ames, Iowa location in the US.

The Team Leader Operational Services will drive operational excellence, including metric performance (Safety, Quality, 5S, Delivery, Productivity, Cost and Morale), process innovation and talent development. Also, responsible for fostering teamwork, involvement and a positive team culture that values safety, quality and overall excellence.

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain a robust, effective production performance process
• Meet or exceed performance metrics (KPI targets)
• Create clear, documented expectations for each team member
• Provide regular feedback, both formal and informal
• Recognize good and excellent performance regularly
• Correct performance problems
• Direct daily activities hands-on and via Team Coordinators
• Ensure robust, standard systems are in place and followed
• Manage variable activity rates, including staffing
• Promote teamwork and enthusiasm
• Reinforce safety, safe behaviors and deliberate actions
• Promote quality excellence and customer satisfaction
• Role model actions and behaviors
• Facilitate effective weekly team meetings with relevant content
• Communicate externally "voice of the team"
• Link actions and improvements to KPI's
• Develop Team Coordinators and others
• Monitor production and have strong shop floor presence (typically 30 minutes or more of each hour)
• Know "hot spots" and monitor them closely
• Identify waste and losses; look with a critical eye
• Question and challenge
• Ensure goals are being met or effective recovery plans are in place
• React and resolve issues with urgency and ownership
• Respond to Team Coordinator escalations and assign resources to quickly resolve issues, escalate to Manager as required

The ideal candidate possesses these skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations Management or related field
• Supply Chain and/or Financial experience
• Related leadership experience
• Good Communications Skills (Oral and Written)
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Proven problem-solving skills
• Strong decision-making skills
• Team player\building positive working relationships
• Supply Chain and/or Financial experience
