JOB DESCRIPTION

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing high quality care to all ages of patients in a safe, efficient, compassionate and courteous manner using proper procedures and following policies that are delegated by a provider.

Essential Functions

  1. Takes a patient to exam room, obtaining, and documenting all necessary information needed to complete an accurate intake form in the EMR.
  2. Assist provider (MD, PA, NP) in procedures as needed per the request of the provider.
  3. Attends the needs of patients and visitors.
  4. Assures patients as needed; allay fears and answer questions as necessary for the patients.
  5. Assure that consents are obtained and signed.
  6. Exhibit cooperation and positive attitude toward other hospital departments and physicians' offices.
  7. Complete incident and error forms when appropriate.
  8. Follow procedure for authorized medication administration and narcotic control.
  9. Communicate questions about appropriateness of medical care through chain of command as needed.
  10. Perform treatments and procedures as directed, which, are within the individual's training and capabilities with diagnostic exam and procedures as directed by provider.
  11. Assure that patients are seen in an orderly and fair manner, and that delays and waiting times are explained. Acutely ill and injured patients are triaged and seen first or referred to the DMHC Emergency Room.
  12. Initiate evaluation and care of the patient prior to the physician's arrival according to standing orders.
  13. Prepare patients for examination and assist, as necessary, arranges for the follow-up care and referral with the Clinical Assistant.
  14. Complete necessary forms and logs, documents, medications, supplies and patient care in a timely and accurate manner.
  15. Be thorough and accurate in documentation of patient complaint, vital signs, current medications, and allergies.
  16. Arrange for the transfer of patients to their departments.
  17. Be able to assist the Providers on duty with CPR and to assist with transferring patients to Emergency Department.

Secondary Functions

  1. Patient teaching-including review of written discharge instructions with patient or responsible party.
  2. Answer telephone calls per department standards relaying information as directed by the provider and document the same.
  3. Complete routine equipment checks and stock supplies. Order, as necessary, from Purchasing and Pharmacy. Assist with monthly out-dating and routine cleaning.
  4. Attend pertinent in-service and educational conferences, and attend staff meetings as appropriate.
  5. Take primary responsibility from keeping own knowledge and skills current.
  6. Work with other departments in coordination of a smooth transfer or patients for procedures or diagnostic tests.
  7. Apply and change dressing as per provider request and policy.
  8. Collect and deliver lab specimens as required.
  9. Maintain a current BLS status. (CPR)
  10. Adhere to standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patient care.
  11. Will be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Occasionally with proper lifting techniques.
  12. Long periods of sitting and walking, lifting patients, able to deal with stressful situations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to obtain certificate of medical assistant(DMHC is willing to provide on the job training and assist with obtaining a certificate).
  • Basic Life support Certification ( Can be obtained upon hire)
  • Ability to work in a Busy healthcare environment monitoring the Quality of care for our patients of all ages.
  • Able to communicate and work in a professional manner.
  • Computer experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to perform effectively in highly stressful situations and have excellent communication skills and be able to serve as and example to other employees.

SCHEDULE

Wage rate also dependent upon experience and education. Certified starting $15.58
