At Horizon Organic/Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams. We have an opening for a Quality Supervisor based in our Salt Lake City, Utah beverage manufacturing facility!
In this role, you will be responsible for supervising the quality laboratory and lab technicians, and also help oversee the Quality and Food Safety programs at the Salt Lake City, UT plant. This position also acts as the plant liaison in dealings with regulatory agencies and client companies. This position is required to be certified for HACCP, GFCI, FSPCA, experienced in Aseptic/ESL production and reporting, well versed in FDA, CFR, Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). This position directly reports to the Plant Quality and Food Safety Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Participating in the interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and correcting employees; addressing complaints and resolving barriers to success.
- Develop, implement and verify QA procedures and training.
- Ensure QA Technicians are trained and proficiently performing laboratory-testing and other procedures according to SOPs and adhere to GMPs, GLPs, QMS and Safety Program.
- Scheduling QA Technicians for effective plant coverage.
- Ensuring that laboratory equipment is calibrated, maintained and functioning properly and maintain records of this activity.
- Coordinate sampling and testing activities in alignment with production.
- Ensure all records of testing are complete, accurate, legible, and in conformance to standard.
- Take immediate action to quality deviations from standard and notify QA Manager of such deviations.
- Follow up on consumer and customer complaints.
- Ensure that activities regarding HACCP, Food Quality Plan, GMPS, GLPs and QMS are performed and documented properly.
- Assist QA Manager and Compliance Specialist with training in SQF’s Food Safety and Food Quality.
- Assist in internal housekeeping, GMP and Prerequisite Programs (PRP) audits.
- Submit required reports to QA Manager and Plant Management.
- Coordinate post cleaning and pre-operation inspections of equipment with the Sanitation and Operations.
- Investigate and correct quality issues by identifying and resolving the root cause of quality issues, in collaboration with other departments.
- Assist in performing “hold” procedures.
- Participate in the HACCP and QMS team.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels on all lab supplies and chemicals.
- Provide prompt and accurate documentation as scheduled or requested.
The base compensation range for this position is $80K – 95K commensurate with experience. There is also an exciting Performance Bonus opportunity related to this role.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:

- You have a bachelor's degree in food science or related field, and a minimum of 3 years combined experience with food or ingredients and food manufacturing, required. At least 4 years’ experience leading a team, preferred. Candidates with ESL, Aseptic, and/or Dairy experience are preferred.
- You have a HACCP Certification and HACCP Food Safety and Quality Management experience.
- You must be well-versed in FDA, CFR, FSMA, Grade A and PMO regulations.
- You have an understanding of plant production systems, FSMA, SQF, FSSC, GMP, HACCP, sanitation, plant safety, quality systems, kosher and organic regulations and knowledge of project management skills preferred.
- You have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Preferred: FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor Certification, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment.
