GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Chief Human Resource Office and Director of Human Resources, the Coordinator II -Teacher Quality is responsible for establishing recruitment and retention strategies and programs for the District; assist with the mentoring programs, ensuring that new teachers and other staff are paired with a mentor who meets their specific needs. Leading the division's New Teacher Academy is also part of this coordinator's responsibilities.
Essential Functions
Establish innovative recruitment and retention strategies and programs with an emphasis on minority representation and difficult-to-staff positions
Coordinate, organize, and manage DPS-hosted career fairs and participate in external recruitment fairs, conferences, and activities to recruit applicants
Serve as the departmental point of contact regarding the latest developments and innovations in technological processes, products, and programs related to talent acquisition strategies. (i.e., virtual job fairs, electronic interviews, etc.)
Use metrics to track the success/failure of recruitment activities; develop/manage quality-of-hire metrics to refine recruiting activities yielding higher quality employees; study causes for turnover rates within the division
Collaborate with the DPS Communication’s team to develop engaging social media content to generate high interest from potential applicants
Coordinate the participation of DPS recruiters at career fairs and conferences
Coordinate recruitment and travel schedules for all recruitment trips
Serve as the department’s liaison for the Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow program
Identify individuals who would make good mentors and interview mentor candidates to find those who have the ability to instruct others
In collaboration with the Director II – Human Resources, develop, maintain, and facilitate a scope and sequence of required topics to be covered by mentors and mentees throughout the mentoring process, inclusive of mentoring topics to be covered at new employee orientation
Facilitate mentor-mentee quarterly meetings, to provide ongoing support and review of the mentoring process
Provide resources to mentors/mentees regarding emerging public school professional learning themes
Plan, develop, organize and implement an annual event to honor teachers of the year, support employees of the year, and retirees (in collaboration with the Licensure Specialist)
Assist with new hire on-boarding efforts, as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proven record as a successful teacher, administrator, or supervisor preferred
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, employees, outside agencies and the general public
Demonstrated knowledge of theories of effective teaching
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of groups
Education And Experience
Experience in organizing and/or facilitating professional development for teachers with 0 - 3 years of experience (required)
Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in education (teaching and/or principalship)
Master's degree in education administration, human resources/personnel management, or a related field is preferred
Experience in recruiting applicants for an educational organization is preferred
Combination of education and experience may suffice for the above
