PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The job of the Instructional Assistant is to provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for collaborating with classroom teachers to work with small groups of students, assisting the teachers with identifying students in need of intervention or enrichment and maintaining related records.
POSITION TYPE: Regular Full-Time
QUALIFICATIONS:
PAY GRADE: Non-certified Grade 56
Minimum education requirement: Associate's Degree or equivalent;
Experience working in an educational environment (substitute teaching, tutoring, etc.)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists individual or small groups of students with all curricular areas to build background knowledge, practice and/or reinforce learning concepts, and assist students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards; Collaborates with classroom teachers regarding student progress to develop a successful learning environment and identify appropriate tools and
resources;
Conducts assessments under the supervision of classroom teachers to evaluate students' instructional needs;
Maintains manual and electronic files and records to ensure availability of items, provide a written reference, provide a safe learning environment, and/or meet mandated requirements;
Ability to implement academic and behavioral interventions, as needed;
Organize and ready instructional materials for use in small groups (i.e. books,
manipulatives, etc.) to ensure the availability of materials for presenting and/or reinforcing concepts;
Reports student-specific progress and observations to assist the teachers in implementing instructional plans;
Support in supervising students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips, as needed;
Participates in meetings, in-service presentations, and professional learning as assigned to acquire and/or communicate information relative to job functions; Understands and adheres to established policies and procedures;
Observes confidentiality and safeguards all student-related information;
Reports to the supervising teacher about student incidents/variances or complaints.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Instructional Assistants to Exceptional Children will have the following additional functions:
Support students with special needs in the educational setting;
Assist students in regular education classes to support learning by adapting information
and tasks to their learning style and IEP goals;
May be assigned to students to help meet their basic needs (transitions
between locations, eating, or personal hygiene);
Support students in the learning of life skills necessary to find a job and/or live independently after graduation;
