Quality Assurance Specialist

Job Summary

The Corporate Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for managing the company's Quality Assurance and Biosecurity Programs.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Provide leadership in Quality Assurance programs.
• Develop & implement continuous quality improvement programs.
• Manage internal audits of Quality Assurance, HACCP/FSMA and Biosecurity Programs and work with plants on corrective action.
• Manage of the company customer complaint program, working with plants on corrective action and providing feedback to Sales for resolving complaints with customers.
• Support customer Quality Assurance and Feed Safety audits of Darling plants.
• Assist the Director Technical Services with the management of the company's antioxidant application program.
• Assist with the management of the company's Mock Recall Program.
• Manage facility Feed Safety Certifications.
• Train plant management and personnel in Biosecurity, HACCP and GMP programs.
• Contribute product development ideas and work on product development teams where appropriate.
• Provide support to the company's two central analytical laboratories.
• Work in other areas as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in related field OR minimum of 1 year of industry experience; experience managing a team also preferred.

Additional Requirement: Must be able to travel to our US facilities; position is 40-60% travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• B.S. in Chemistry, Quality Management, Meat Science or related field preferred.
• HACCP certification preferred.
• Experience with plant Quality Systems and HACCP/GMP Plan auditing.
• Experience in the Pet Food industry.
• Experience with animal by-products.
• Excellent math skills, including statistical analysis.
• Highly organized; superior time management skills.
• Exceptional communication skills both written and oral.
• Self-motivated; self-starter; extroverted personality.
• Work well with all levels of the corporation.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
• Frequently lifts up to 20 lbs.
• Occasionally push, pull, move, or lift 50 lbs.
• Regularly required reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

Job functions will be carried out in an office, lab, plant and/or customer environment.
