Job Posting for Preclinical Research Technician Analyst at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health
Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated individual with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Biophysics, or equivalent, to join our research team. As a Technician/Analyst, you will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of bacterial biofilms using cutting-edge optical techniques and statistical analysis of the data.
Responsibilities
1. Data Collection:
Collect optical coherence tomography (OCT) data from both in vitro and in vivo samples of bacterial biofilms.
Ensure accurate and high-quality data acquisition and organized storage of data.
2. Algorithm Development:
Develop robust algorithms for segmenting OCT data into distinct components:⚬ Mature and immature biofilm regions.⚬ Biofilm pores.⚬ Noise artifacts
Optimize segmentation methods to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
3. Analytical Techniques:
Explore advanced analytical techniques relevant to biofilm research:⚬ Utilize dynamical systems analysis to study biofilm dynamics.⚬ Investigate Arnold tongues and oscillations or conical/spiral behavior in biofilm structures.⚬ Apply wavelet transforms to extract relevant features.⚬ Model biofilm growth using statistical distributions.
4. Hardware Recommendations and Implementation:
Collaborate with optical engineers and staff scientists to improve OCT hardware systems.
Provide recommendations for enhancing system performance, resolution, and sensitivity.
Participate in the design and implementation of new OCT systems for applied applications.
5. Problem Solving:
Address practical challenges encountered during the quantification of optical properties in biofilms.
Troubleshoot issues related to data acquisition, noise reduction, and image artifacts.
6. Interdisciplinary Research:
Apply principles of physics to basic science research in microbiology and biofilm growth.
Collaborate with microbiologists, biophysicists, and other experts to advance our understanding of biofilm behavior.
Work proficiently in a translational lab in compliance with laboratory biosafety regulations
