Overview
Provides supervision of staff and the operation of the DHART Communication Center. Serves as a resource, role model, and extension of departmental management to uphold departmental and institutional priorities, policies and practices. In collaboration with the DHART Operations Manager, participates in performance management of staff members to include coaching, preparation of performance evaluations, and the performance management process. Initiates disciplinary action as appropriate. Addresses conflicts as they may arise. Assists/mediates to maintain smooth operations of the unit. Involves unit leadership or as appropriate. Serves as the liaison with the aviation vendor Operational Control Center.
Responsibilities
Provides supervision of the DHART Communications Center and staff.
In collaboration with the DHART Operations Manager, oversees hiring, training, counseling and evaluating DHART Communications Center staff.
Oversees the DHART Communications Center and remote base locations specific to telephone systems, mobile telephones, pagers, radios, fax operations, flight following and flight communications software and systems.
Coordinates daily operations, and staffing, of the DHART Communications Center by ensuring appropriate usage of equipment, acting as a primary contact to resolve flight communications issues, and ensuring that adequate communication coverage is scheduled.
Maintains compliance of all regulatory and accreditation requirements as it relates to the FAA, FCC and CAMTS.
Facilitates and maintains the flight communications emergency backup network.
Develops and implements training programs related to DHART Communications.
Acts as DHART Communications liaison to both internal and external departments and agencies.
Maintains all requirements for the role of DHART Communications Specialist, and serves in this capacity as required, requested and needed.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent
Combined supervisory, telecommunications, and/or computer systems experience or the equivalent required.
Previous supervisory experience.
Must possess good customer service skills.
Must be able to multitask and function independently.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a great attention to detail required.
Must be proficient with typing on a computer.
Prior EMS experience or medical background preferred.
Prior dispatch or emergency medical dispatching (EMD) experience preferred.
Required Licensure/Certifications
Certified Flight Communicator certification required within 2 years of hire.
