Job Summary:
The AIX Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of AIX systems. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of AIX operating systems, server hardware, and software applications. The ideal candidate will ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the AIX systems that support core organizational functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain AIX operating systems and related software.
- Manage user accounts and permissions to ensure security and compliance.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal operation.
- Configure and manage logical partitions (LPARs) and workload partitions (WPARs).
- Server Management:
- Set up and manage physical and virtual AIX servers.
- Implement and maintain High Availability (HA) solutions, such as PowerHA.
- Perform regular backups and disaster recovery operations.
- Maintain and manage the Hardware Management Console (HMC).
- Performance Tuning:
- Monitor system performance and resource utilization.
- Analyze performance data and make recommendations for improvements.
- Implement tuning adjustments to optimize system performance.
- Configure and manage dynamic LPAR (DLPAR) operations for resource allocation.
- Patch Management:
- Plan and implement patches and updates for AIX systems.
- Ensure systems are up-to-date with the latest security patches and software updates.
- Utilize NIM (Network Installation Manager) for system installations and updates.
- Automation and Scripting:
- Develop and maintain shell scripts for automation of routine tasks.
- Utilize automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef to streamline administration processes.
- Automate monitoring and alerting processes using tools such as Nagios or Zabbix.
- Security Management:
- Implement and enforce security policies to protect system integrity.
- Perform regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory security standards.
- Configure and manage Kerberos authentication and Secure Shell (SSH).
- Technical Support:
- Provide technical support for AIX-related issues to end-users and other IT staff.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system-related issues in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with vendors for hardware and software support.
- Configure and manage system logging and monitoring with syslog and other tools.
- Storage Management:
- Manage SAN (Storage Area Network) configurations and LUN (Logical Unit Number) mappings.
- Configure and maintain file systems using JFS2 (Journaled File System 2).
- Implement and manage volume groups, logical volumes, and disk quotas.
- Utilize tools like IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) for advanced storage management.
- Networking:
- Configure and manage TCP/IP networking on AIX systems.
- Manage network interfaces, VLANs, and virtual Ethernet.
- Implement and maintain network services such as DNS, DHCP, and NFS.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of the AIX environment.
- Generate reports on system performance, utilization, and incidents.
- Document procedures and guidelines for system administration tasks.
- Collaboration and Training:
- Work closely with other IT team members to support overall IT infrastructure.
- Provide training and guidance to junior administrators and support staff.
- Collaborate with application and database teams to ensure system compatibility and performance.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an AIX Administrator or in a similar role.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in AIX operating systems (AIX 6.x, AIX 7.x).
- Experience with IBM Power Systems hardware.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies, such as PowerVM.
- Familiarity with shell scripting and automation tools (e.g., KornShell, Bash, Python).
- Understanding of networking principles and storage technologies.
- Experience with backup and recovery tools and procedures.
- Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
- Experience with security tools and practices, such as LDAP, Kerberos, and SSL/TLS.
- Familiarity with cloud environments and integration (e.g., IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure) is a plus.
- Certifications: IBM Certified System Administrator AIX is preferred.
