  • 5 years progressive accounting and finance experience, including 2 as controller
  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) is required
  • Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis

As Controller you play a key role in our Financial Services team to analyze, negotiate, and prepare all financial activities within our growing organization. This individual will work cross-functionally with operations, finance, and executive leadership teams.

On a day-to-day basis, this role includes tasks such as financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, internal controls, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations. 1. Financial Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting accounting principles and procedures to ensure that the company’s financial statements are presented according to GAAP and up to date
  • Ensuring that accounting standards are followed in order to maintain the integrity of financial records
  • Develop forecasting metrics for company performance
  • Complete project profitability review and engage appropriate team members when exceptions are identified
  • Analyze company performance, financial statements, business drivers and operational metrics against budget and prior years
  • Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, inventory and fixed assets
  • Review unearned revenue spreadsheet for completeness and accuracy
  • Coordinate and execute month-end closing activities including the completion of all needed journal entries to maintain accuracy of general ledger
  • Facilitate and prepare annual budgets by creating and maintaining supporting schedules and assisting with implementation plans
  • Manage payroll and sales commission program, including calculations, reconciliations and payments to applicable team members
  • Monitor and control cash flow, including collections and related disbursement activities
  • Act as a liaison with financial institutions and provide requested documentation, as necessary
  • Effectively use, manage and document online banking activities on behalf of the company
  • Understand USAC School and Libraries Division E-rate program and bill and collect monies customer projects per program requirements
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements for 401k and employee benefit plans.
  • Lead annual physical inventory counts in conjunction with audit team
  • Develop and document business processes, financial audits, and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Coordinating with external auditors to make sure audits are performed correctly and on time
  • All other duties as assigned

2. Tax Responsibilities:

  • Work with external tax advisors to ensure all corporate tax filings are accurate, compliant and done in a timely manner
  • Resolve tax notifications
  • Monitor payroll processing and tax compliance for accuracy

3. Organization Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate company insurance policies and deductibles with broker
  • Negotiate company healthcare and employee benefits with broker
  • Become familiar with DataServ policies and procedures and develop new as warranted
  • Develop, manage and support workflow process as it relates to purchasing, inventory and invoicing, including requesting and participating in workflow changes and improvements for both new sales offerings and existing ones
  • Communicate risks and opportunities and advise CEO/President as necessary

4. Team Lead Responsibilities:

  • Provides operational management and support for the accounting team members, including but not limited to, ongoing status meetings, regular performance reviews, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, exits, etc.
  • Represent DataServ in a positive manner to colleagues, customer base and vendors
  • Engage in root cause analysis activities for solving recurring department pain points
  • Provide redundancy and backup support for other team members
  • Be a supportive team member to others

Proficiencies we seek:

  • Experience in Great Plains preferred, but not required
  • Experience with databases preferred
  • Experience with technology manufacturers (i.e. Cisco, Microsoft, HP, Dell, etc.) preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office products (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to proofread
