Position: Dental Assistant
Location: Marion County Health Department or alternating school site locations
Projected End Date: June 30, 2024
Opportunity: Opportunity to become permanent

Requirements:

• Florida Dental Radiology Certificate
• FL Dental Expanded Duty Certificate
• FL driver’s license
• Current/active CPR certificate
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) – highly preferred
• Pediatric Experience – highly preferred

Work Environment:

• Marion County Health Department or alternating school site locations
• Dress Code: Scrubs

Travel:

• 10% of the time; may be assigned to a school site
• Can ride with a state employee in a state vehicle
• Normally will be an elementary school; will be at the school for the entire day, no travel required during business hours

Equipment Used:

• EagleSoft computer software
• Autoclave
• Dental equipment

Job Description:

Dental Treatment:

• Expanded duties as licensed by the board of professional regulations for certified dental assistant
• Polish clinical crowns of teeth
• Apply topical fluoride gels and varnish
• Place temporary restorations and sealants
• Remove sutures
• Fabricate temporary crowns, pack cord, and cement temporary crowns

Four-Handed Dental Technique:

• Review medical history with the patient/guardian and take blood pressure
• Complete the signs and symptoms and objective data of the SOAP notes and write up in the computer notes
• Use proper barrier techniques
• Pass instruments while correctly retracting tongue and/or cheek and while suctioning
• Coordinate assisting methods, activities, and actions with dentist’s actions
• Adjust equipment and light source as needed by dentist
• Mix restorative materials and cements

Proper Operatory Setup:

• Ensure instruments and equipment are out and in place before the patient arrives
• Must be able to lift at least 10 pounds

Radiographs:

• Maintain radiographic certification as licensed by the Board of Professional Regulations
• Use ScanX phosphoric plates and EagleSoft software

Sterilization:

• Properly clean and sterilize instruments following dental clinic procedures
• Clean autoclave and disinfect counters and environmental surfaces

Skills/Education Needed:

• Working knowledge of standard dental procedures, techniques, and materials used in the dental clinic
• Working knowledge of OSHA standards, dental infection control, and hazardous dental materials
• Positive, helpful attitude toward dental director, dentist, students, staff, patients, and their families
• Ability to enter information into EagleSoft electronic oral health record

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $14.00 - $14.68 per hour

• Monday to Friday
