What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Systems Technician position at Davey Tree Expert Company?
Davey Resource Group (DRG), the consulting and technical services division of The Davey Tree Expert Company, has opportunities in the field of Asset Management, as an entry level Utility Systems Technician. DRG provides Asset Management services for electric utility and telecommunication companies throughout the U.S. We are searching for future leaders that share the same level of commitment, dedication, and positive attitude, that are able to grow into our next upper management positions.
Duties: The Utility Systems Technician inspects from the ground and compiles data on power lines, electric utility equipment, and telecommunication facilities attached to utility poles in the right-of-way (ROW). The Technician uses a field computer linked with a GPS unit to record data at each utility pole. The position is 100% outdoors working systematically through the distribution system with all pertinent equipment including (but not limited to) computer, GPS unit, Blue-tooth technology, digital camera, and fiberglass hook stick. DRG provides complete training of specific task needs for the position.
Education and Qualifications:
High school diploma and/or two to four-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Geography, GIS or related discipline or equivalent experience in a similar position is a plus
Electric Equipment Identification or experience, and Communication Equipment Identification capability or experience is preferred
Specific OSHA 1910.269 Qualified Training will be provided as required by the project (including but not limited to use of insulated measuring sticks, open enclosure methodology, and the use of phasing tools.
Working knowledge of computers - highly tech savvy is a plus.
Candidate should be able to execute and plan daily goals while meeting quality, time and budget constraints
Valid driver's license and reliable means of transportation to project site is a must.
Candidate needs the willingness to travel from project to project to gain invaluable experience for future growth opportunities and advancement.
Be able to stand, walk, and potentially climb in urban or rural sometimes rugged environments for 10 hour days.
Willing and able to work consistent overtime as required
Must have U.S. citizenship with valid social security number
Must be comfortable to work as a team or independently
Must be able to work in all weather related condition.
Additional Information:
This position would cover locations around New Jersey must be comfortable with traveling from project location to location within territory. Use of company vehicle with gas card. Full time hourly position – Compensation based on qualifications and experience.
