ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Works with school-based administrators, bus drivers, monitors, and substitutes in completing appropriate requirements.
- Coordinates various other bus driver requirements such as : background / criminal records checks, and conducts scheduled and random drug testing.
- Completes related reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
- Serves as liaison and sounding board for bus driver and parent concerns.
- Answers telephone and two-way radio.
- Oversees the staffing of all buses including bus drivers, bus monitors, and substitutes.
- Monitors staff timesheets to ensure that staff are categorized correctly for benefits and earnings.
- Updates bus routes as needed.
- Monitors the cleanliness and maintenance of buses.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from high school.
- Thorough knowledge of public school transportation systems, equipment, legal requirements, and operational policies and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of the Bus Driver licensing and other related requirements.
- Considerable knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing public school transportation systems.
- Considerable knowledge of office accounting practices, methods and procedures used by the school system.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and related safety precautions of the class.
- General knowledge of school system organization and operational policies and procedures.
- Ability to use common office equipment, including popular computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet and file maintenance programs.
- Ability to understand or apply laws, regulations and policies to the maintenance of financial records.
- Ability to verify documents and forms for accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to operate vehicles safely.
- Ability to inspect the bus according to Transportation Operating Instructions.
- Ability to detect and report observable mechanical defects or failures on the school bus.
- Ability to maintain discipline of students assigned to ride the bus.
- Ability to complete required records.
- Ability to provide oral and written instructions accurately.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.
- Ability to establish and maintain records of work activities and parts.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently;
and / or up to 10 pound of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate machines and equipment including close inspection of moving and small parts, using measurement devices, assembly, and fabrication of parts, and to maintain records.
